A sit and go tournament is a tournament with no set start time when all of the seats fill up the tourney starts. A $50-$5 would require you to pay $55 buy-in to participate. $50 goes to the prize pool $5 goes to the card-room. On a single table $50-$5 sit and go with ten players you'd have a prize pool of $500 with the top three finishers getting paid in most cases. The typical prize structure would be something like $250 for 1st, $150 for 2nd, $100 for 3rd. It can vary from card room to card room and in some cases the winner gets a free entry to a larger tournament instead of cash.
