Murphy's law is a very pessimistic approach to life. "If anything can go wrong, it will. If two things can go wrong, the one that is worst will. That light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train." Those are examples of quotes based on Murphy's Law.

One problem with Murphy's Law is that it discounts God's love and actions in the universe, thus giving more power to a negative force or fate.

Even if we discount God's actions in the universe, one would think that it would be 50/50 for good or bad. Murphy's Law only allows for the bad, or worst possible things to happen.

Proof against Murphy's Law: I COULD have been kidnapped as a child, but I wasn't. I could have cancer, but I don't.

Recently, my daughter drove off the road in a rainstorm and got her car stuck in the mud. A bad thing to be sure. But the WORST possible thing did not happen! She did not hit the pole that was right there and she did not get hurt.

So much for our friend Murphy and his "Law" ... it's just a negative, nasty view of life.

Murphys Law for the pessimist in all of us
"anything that can go wrong, will go wrong"
A very negative, self-fulfilling way of thinking.

Murphy's Law has many corollaries, but in general it means if anything can possibly go wrong, it will and at the worst possible time.

Most folks are missing the last part -- the wikipedia entry is the best one.

Anything that can go wrong will go wrong....at the worst possible moment. I.E. it doesn't mean that everything is going to go wrong, or that when something goes wrong it isn't fixable. It just means that when things go wrong -- even small things-- it always seems to be at a time point where what goes wrong becomes critically so.

Murphy's simply means: If the possibility of something going wrong exists then something will go wrong

Basically it is this "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong" It's a pessimistic point of view that is not scientifically sound. But people use it to explain failures in many areas or accidents.

Its not a "law", but an observation about how things happen. If theres a chance something will go wrong, it probably will.

merely: it quite is a pessimistic view of the Universe. the assumption is that something undesirable that *might* take place *will* take place. yet in any different case of putting forward the regulation is, "something which could pass incorrect will pass incorrect." in many cases it quite is used paradoxically - as a type of shaggy dog tale while some thing undesirable happens which you may by no potential have predicted to take place. it quite is extremely standard between engineers - who might desire to triumph over unpredicted problems at artwork virtually daily.
