They say that illegal immigrants drain our economy...?

They drain our economy of resources, vital programs for legal Americans. They also say that this is depressing wages for the American people, now when we close our borders off to almost all illegal immigrants will I be guaranteed a wage increase? Will NY's minimum wage go above 6 dollars? I’ve been told not to hold my breath…why is that?

Minimum wage may not go up, but a lot more jobs are likely to become available, since at this moment, many companies are illegally hiring immigrants and illegally paying them less than the legal minimum wage.

With less illegal immigrants and more crackdown on the ones who are already here, businesses will have a harder time finding illegal immigrants to exploit and pay $2 to $3 dollars an hour, and will be forced to hire legal American citizens and pay them fair wages.

because your so far northeast... all the immigrant's come up through the southwest area... don't let the government fool you... they only tell you what they want you to hear so they don't tell you the full story... immigrants do not hurt our wages they may contribute but they are not the main reason... in New Mexico the minimum wage is $5.15 an hour and it is not going up any time soon... illegal immigrants will never get paid more then Americans... why? because they are willing to work for less... they will work for $2.15 an hour and work 18 hour days to support there family and live the American dream... not all immigrants are like this just the few decent ones that are... the real reason for the wall along the border is because Mexican immigrants have a higher crime rate in America... Americans are depressing wages for them self's because Americans want more, more pay less work, more materials, more cars, etc... but they are not willing to put in the work for it so they blame others like the immigrants who are actually working there liefs away to give there children the lives that they never had... the government will not raise any wages except for maybe tax's... minimum wage means if they could pay you less they would in less you work hard for that raise... get an education that's where the money is at...

If the millions of illegals are granted amnesty.Do you think that they will still work for the same low wages that they do now.No they will demand the same wages as any other citizen does.They will want the same benefits,the same perks.The so called "jobs Americans wont do"would become vacant and undone.So that means another 20 million illegals would flood this country.Its a never ending cycle that must be stopped.Amnesty is not the answer.
By the way I live in Arizona,"land of the illegals" and my lawn service person is Asian,and the men that work for him are 2 African American and 2 white,my housekeeper is German.I don't hire illegal aliens to do any work in my home or my business.Most illegals here in the southwest are paid in cash,they will work all day for $20 dollars.
Will you do that? I wouldn't so that does depress wages,people will hire cheaper labor and save money so the legal American doesn't get the job at a normal rate of pay.You may not get a raise but you do get to keep your job if they are all gone.

Illegal immigration actually strengthens our economy in some ways because it allows for cheap labor for a lot of southwestern farming that would otherwise not be done and go bankrupt in theory. Because of the cheap labor, these farmers are able to compete with cheaper foreign market imports to the US. The biggest disadvantage to the "open" borders is drug trafficking and possible terrorist activities and a drain on our health services.

But your minimum wage will only go up if your state votes for it. The problem with minimum wage going up is that is causes the price of everything else to go up! So after about a few months everything costs more and the wage hike did nothing in the long run. If you want a higher wage, get a better job! People with minimum wages are usually high school students, high school dropouts, or people who simply have no real drive to to get a better job. Our economy is very strong now, and there is no excuse to say that you cannot find a better job- because there are lots of good jobs out there if you are willing to work hard!

I hope that everyone can get a raise.My husband has been making the same for the last 2 years and we could us a raise in pay.but I wouldn't hold my breath for a raise .I don't think just because they closed the borders and the illegal immigrants want be coming in as much that we will get a raise in pay.

Yah know, I think you guys just get your undies in a twist over illegal immigrants because you dont know who else to get p***** off at. I keep hearing about all these welfare benefits that Mexicans supposedly get. Maybe it's just the word WELFARE that p***** you off. The cost of welfare benefits is next to nothing compared to what this country spends on the "war on terror." Military spending in this country is out of control. And it's not anything new, it's been like that for about 60 years now. I, too, cant get SSI disability for a family member and we desperately need it...but you dont hear me squawking about illegals taking the benefits.

What 'they' say is that our borders haven't been enforced nor the applicable statutes as they apply to immigration enforcement, for about 2 decades...and the massive influx of illegal aliens is now making a mess of things...

Here's one for ya.... I havent worked in 2 years, Dr's tell me I cant, SS and Medical say I'm able to work, So I get nothing. I mean nothing at all, No help, Cant get a job without a medical release. But I know mexicans that live by me, They get benifits and for what reason, They cant get work because they dont speak English.

It could happen, but stopping illegals from coming is only one problem. We would also have to get rid of the ones that are here.

illegal aliens cost taxpayers like you and me $90 billion dollars every year for WELFARE and social services.

we could pay some darn good wages to people taking their place and doing the jobs that they did!

we need to take care of our own before we let some 3rd world countries come in here and try to take over!
