He is someone with whom I agree wholeheartedly on issues religion and government. He's the executive director of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. He advocates both keeping religion out of the government, and government out of religion. Too often, people forget the flip-side of the church-state issue. If religion is allowed to influence the government, then the government too will be allowed to influence religion. Think back to before the Constitution was ratified, where Baptists in many states were required to pay taxes to support the Anglican or Congregationalist churches (since these were the official churches of various colonies).
