First of all if you have a 4 x 4 the speed you are going is slower than you think check your speedo, secondly if you live in an urban environment you dont need a 4 x 4 they're specifically made for rough terrain ie: rural, thirdly bullbars ..........where ya gonna see a bull in the city? they totally ruin a persons shape when you hit them particularly children's. Why do people buy them?

I still love the justification for the urban cowboys driving things called "Warrior" or "Tank" or whatever dumb name the marketing companies came up with to sell the macho bull to these people...I need a big car for the kids - ignoring the fact most estates have as much or more room; we go to the country - ie we have too much money and best of all - the industry spokespeople who just say "ah its because the critics are jealous they can't afford one" - great stuff guys! Oh and lets not forget those who say yes but they don drink that much gas - they just happen to be 4 tons of steel that east a gallon every 10 miles...by the way thought they had made bull bars illegal precisely becuase they increased the chance of killing people 100%

they're not just for off road they're great towcars i have a 4.0l v8 discovery because i need it nothing else will carry 7 passengers & pull a 2ton caravan dont worry i'm not killing the planet as it runs on lpg so the gases coming out the exhaust are less than a small hatchback i do have bullbars they're for function (pushing things) but i dont drive on the pavements, playing fields etc perhaps i,m being cynical but if you cross the road properly you have nothing to fear from bullbars

I am one of the few people who drives a 4x4 but not on purpose. I needed a truck for work and the truck i ended up with happened to be a 4x4. I think its pretty lame of you and some of your supporters to lump people together just because you dont like something they do. Thats what the KKK does. Just because I (or anyone else) drives a 4x4 dosent mean we are egomaniacs out to cause harm on the road. No one needs to drive an import with a spoiler and open exaust, no one needs to drive a restored 56 chevy, no one needs to put huge tires and bull bars on a truck. Its called individuality. People have different senses of style and thats what makes the world interesting. Just because you dont like it dosent make it wrong. How important do you think you are? Someone has a god complex. Get over yourself.

Typical no brainer , even if you were right about the speedo , which you'r not , if the vehicle's being used in urban environment then surely it's better to be going slower than faster , i also take 6 kids to school , 3 mls away , every day in all weathers , thats 3 of my own and 3 others , so thats one car instead of 4 , i also use mine in snow and ice to make sure my elderly neighbours get their daily bread and milk or whatever they need , however i do agree about the bull bars but you rarely see them nowadays ,oh , and i'v got a white van, got anything else to say !!

The larger 4x4's are surely Utility Vehicles. A high proportion of these owners, don't actually need them. Look at how many of them are clean and polished. Some even have chrome alloys! - How many go anywhere near a muddy field - let alone offroad!

As a pedestrian I was nearly knocked off my feet once, when one mounted the pavement to get up the nearside lane quicker, at a junction. As a motorist - I see them driven like cars - but the large ones, are essentially TRUCKS and should be driven with due responsibility.

The reason most inner city drivers buy inappropriate 4x4s is they feel safer when they are in a vehicle that is bigger, stronger & higher than most of the other vehicles on the road. Kind of defeats the purpose when most of the mothers taking thier kids to school are driving a 4x4 and are therefore more likely to crash into something that is the same size, strength and height of thier own vehicle...

Anti 4x4 rants are simply an example of pathetic inverse snobbery by the stupid people in the lower socio-economic groups.

For example; people who cannot capitalise appropriately, or people who aren't aware that the fitment of bull bars to road vehicles has been illegal for many years now.

The only people who have a problem with 4x4s are people who are not able to afford to buy and run one. If they were able then they would realise that the knowledge that your children and family are safely seated in case of a collision; that you are able to see past and over obstacles; and that you need not worry about irritating speed bumps and high pavements is easily enough of a justification to own one.

In addition to these lifestyle comforts, the ignorant, poor majority who rant about 4x4s fail to recognise that the vast majority of 4x4s have efficient diesel engines and actually give better economy than a petrol hatchback. These diesel engines also emit less carbon Dioxide, which the government chooses to levy its car tax on.

Because the 4x4 driver is seated higher up, and they have access to larger mirrors and they have a larger glasshouse, they are able to see obstructions and hazards sooner and more clearly. Also, because 4x4s are expensive they usually have automatic gearboxes, which means the driver can think about the road more and changing gear less: reducing the likelihood of an accident.

Ask yourselves this; if people really think 4x4s are great big thirsty gas guzzlers, then why don't they spit the same vitriol at owners of fast sports cars or luxury saloons- the majority of which run large displacement, high emission petrol engines?

I love my 4x4. I live in a very rural area, the mountains and I have yet to hit anything with it. I bought this for the conditions I do live in. City slickers, well, there's is just an ego booster...and because they have more money than sense and they feel the need to impress.

Ok, why would your speedometer be off? My truck has oversized tires, speedometer is slow, so your actually going faster than you think.

Second, people buy 4x4 for the snow. But I don't live down south or in the city.

Third, I don't have a bullbar, but I can see why you would have one. So when that *** in the jetta pulls out in front of you it hurts them a lot more than it hurts you. That's why I have that nice big hitch on the back of mine.
