it has nothing to do with either each owner of each theater decides what is played there and for how long.

I live in TX - out in the "mission field". I would love it if the work and the glory movies and other Mormon made movies would come here. But I think I understand what you're saying. I live in a very conservative city - a couple of years ago a poll came out saying we were the 2nd most conservative city in the nation, right behind Provo. -Anyway, when Christian movies come out, they are heavily promoted and stick around for months in one venue or another. Non-Christian (but not "bad" movies) sometimes only last a couple of weeks. (Of course all the R rated movies stay a long time too - wonder what that says?)
But in UT I think all Mormon made movies are expected to do well and most - due to their religion will support even the poorly made ones. However, I've really liked the two TWATG movies I've seen.

I don't believe Gov Huntsman could keep anyone from allowing a movie to be shown as long as it wasn't obscene.. On channel 24 I have seen the Trinity Broadcast Network show several christian productions. I seethe left behind series being sold in the local stories at least the ones in Sandy City. I seldom shop outside Sandy. I think the lack of showing in the theaters is because there just isn't the christian population around to make it worth while for Larry Miller to show them ;) After all you know that Guy.... Jim

There are very many christian movies that are made here in Utah and seen in Utah I always see a ton at the dollar shows in sandy probably more than the LDS movies .
Love the one with the minster daughter and the popular boy falling in love and getting married she died at the end but it showed true love and devotion . Theres lots out there you just have to look for them.

The "Work and the Glory" series as well as other LDS culture films know the audience they are catering to. I am pleased that the LDS film makers are finally able to make some films that cater to our culture and standards. Obviously the market audience is greater in Utah than in other states, such as California where I am at. When the films come out here, they are only here for one week. We usually have to wait for the dvd to come out. As for other "Christian" films, Utah does not hang onto them very long because the doctrines depicted in them are contrary to our beliefs and therefore rub us the wrong way. We will watch any good film but we are going to go to a film that is consistent with our culture before we go to one that is contrary. This is just common sense.

Don't the owners of the movie complex's decide what movies they play? If you were the owner, you knew the population was largely LDS, wouldn't you have them in the theater as long as people were coming to watch those types of movies? Why is this a big deal?

We have had them down here in southern AZ- where it is mainly Hispanics and Catholics. They are usually here for a couple of weeks.
I haven't seen any "Christian" movies (whatever they might be?) come out here.
