I went to bed at 11:15 w/some pain in my chest and back. Took 1 Advil & went back to sleep. Work up at 12:15 in a LOT of pain. I called my Dr, who has a after-hours nurse service, & was advised to go to the E.R.
During the ride, I was given oxygen, baby aspirin & a spray of oral nitroglycerin to ease my discomfort. It worked & I was feeling a lot better by the time I got to the E.R.
But within 1 hour, I felt like the room was spinning. I was sweating, anxious, & my face felt like it was tingling. It was a scary, doom like feeling I had, and it scared the hell out of me.
I was giving an EKG at the time. The nurse said my BP was 130/80. I had a chest x-ray (A- ok about that). Then I was given Ativan and some Benadryl.
EKG results said my heart was ok. For some reason, during the urinalysis, substances were seen that raised red flags (e.g painkillers).
Now, my right eye & the right side of my lips are swollen. Drshink I had an allergic reaction. I'm confused...help?

Have to add this info...
I'm not a smoker, very rarely drink (1-2 every few months), and I do not do illegal drugs of any kind. I have to wonder if something I ate or drank recently was tam-pered with or if there was a mistake with the lab.
The swelling is ONLY on the RIGHT side of my face. Not the left. It looks and feels fine.
Can any of the meds I was given cause facial swelling? The Ativan or Nitroglycerin? I can breathe ok, but it feels weird to blink or move my lips.
Help please!!! I am scared!!!!

JohnAbout Me...
You did not say where you had been prier to going to bed. How old are you?? You described a reaction to something you were given, i am guessing in the ambulance. They gave you benadryl because they too thought the same. Your face is still swollen because it takes time for meds to leave the body to get back to normal. You need to go in and have a complete physical.

JohnAboutMe..I'm 30...and I at my mom's house, coming from my own home, and was settling down for bed when all this stuff happened. I'm assuming it was one of the cocktail of meds I was given (maybe the NG). Thw swelling has subsided a little.
However, I have 2 appointments to attend this week. One with an allergist, to find out what's going on. And the other with my PCP, for a follow up.
Thanks to you and ALL the posters for your advice and concern. It's so appreciated!!

Allergic reactions, while more common to medications, can also happen with certain foods. You may have developed an allergy to something that you have eaten many times before.
High on the offender list are: shellfish, peanuts, or anything with peanut oil in it, nuts, chocolate, melons, beef (as they load them up with all kinds of medications on their way to slaughter). Or what you reacted to may not be on this list at all.
What are the possiblities that someone laced your food? You have not included the scenario, but that would be an ouside chance, also.

sound like you were, at first, maybe having an anxiety or panic attack... did you have much stress that day? those can hit you out of no where and make you feel like your having a heartattack, make you dizzy, sweaty, and tingly, and an overall feeling of impending doom. minus the facial swelling.,. The swelling really sounds like an allergic reaction to something they gave you in the hospital or maybe a food.... If all your vitals and xrays came out normal... then i wouldnt be surprised if it was just a panic attack. Ive suffered from spontaneous ones for years now,, and have had several trips to the e.r. thinking i was dying... its crazy how the mind can work.... Plus the pain you felt, could have been something potential bad happening to your heart, and maybe it cleared for the time being... and then it threw you into a panic attack thus having the other crazy signs and feelings you did.. I would make sure everything is ok with your heart just to be safe, i geuss depending on your age. ekg's dont always show anything unless its happening right then and there....you would think a chest xray would show up something... but,, ou never know.. you could always wear an event holter moniter to moniter your heart for a week,.... better safe then sorry.. I mean ive been through all of these and im only 22, but i suffer from axiety like i said before.. I feel sorry for you and hope your ok. ♥♥♥

It's very feasible that the cause you DO have those signs is considering the fact that you are studying them. Many ladies omit durations considering the fact that of strain. In truth, mine got here every week past due final month considering the fact that I used to be stressing out over my ACT trying out. If you continue to have doubts after that, cross to the medical professional for a truly experiment. If you believe you are mature ample for unprotected intercourse, then you are mature ample to both inform your mothers and fathers that you just desire a experiment, or force your self. Also, when you quite believe it's strain, take a look at a few chamomile tea. You can purchase it at any place quite, and sweeten it up with sugar or honey. True allergic reactions typically present with shortness of breath, hives and hypotension (low blood pressure). Its possible you had a hypersensitivity reaction to either the asprin or advil,or nitro. Nitro can cause cutaneous vasodilation (could account for the swelling in the face). Advil and asprin should not be used together because asprin can increase the ibprofen level. It can also increase BUN, creatinine, potassium levels , gluclose and hemoglobin and hematocrit. Possible reasoning for weird lab work you mentioned. It too can cause peripheal edema, fluid retention and edema, again swelling.

The right sided swelling is not normal. See the doc today and find out what is going on. Since your heart checked out fine it is possible that you had an allergic reaction but since you are having swelling that you didn't have last night then head to doc and get this checked out right away.
