i was 6 when i had mine in ( a few years ago) and it is nothing to worry about :-) all you get is this cream to put on the back of your hand to numb it so they can put a needle through it and put you to sleep before the operation zzzzz. i wasnt worried and neither should u. but the one thing that was bad was the soggy toast at the end i had to get my mum to eat some for me to!
then after only a few times a year you go back for some more tests. it certanly helped me!

My little brother got grommets about 6months ago and it really is'nt that big a deal they are really small and simply drain away the ear wax. the operation is simple no cuts or stiches he'll be out in 15 mins. There is one problem though some times the grommets fall out {your doctor will tell you if this has happened as you wont be able you notice} but more can be put in if needed

Hi, my little boy had glue ear and had grommets fitted twice. It was amazing, the ear infections stopped as much and he could hear so clearly.... we had to turn the tv down! It is nothing to worry about. He is 8 yrs old now and his ears are absolutely fine. Good luck!!

Let him have them put in
I had them put in when I was 7 & I've never looked back as far as hearing is concerned, I even passed the Army medical at 16, even though I was told I wouldn't
As the ears heal the grommets work themselves out of ear, don't worry they're very small
Only thing you have to watch in early years is making sure your son doesn't get water in his ears, meaning ear plugs when swimming etc.

I had grommets, gets rid of all the goo in your ear! I had mine done about 20 years ago so my experience probably wouldn't be relevant now!! I still suffer with glue ear and find that a strong decongestant helps or a menthol rub.
It's nothing to worry about. :)

I suggest that you let him have the operation.
I had it when I was eight, and it made a great difference to my hearing. I remember before the operation, I had such a hard time understanding what people were saying because I couldn't hear very well, and the operations made such a HUGE improvement to my life.
Please do this.
I don't remember any discomfort afterwards, it was more inconvenient having to go to the hospital for checkups, but it was so worth every one of those visits.
My school marks improved and I became one of the top in my year group because I could hear and understand what was going on.
Your son will grateful later in life if you do this for him, I know my mom was worried sick, but she let me have the operation twice- the first time wasn't successful because I had a really nasty blow to the head which dislodged them, but the second operation worked.
Good luck to you and your son!

My boy is two and has just had them in both ears, they are AMAZING they hear straight after the op, honest its the best thing to do, they have to be in for 6 months and after that they ae all better, don't worry at all, i was a megga stress head before the op, but beleive me you'll cry when you see the difference!
GOOD LUCK:)

last winter my daughter ( she was 2 ) was having recurring ear infections we took her to a specialist and he said that she had glue ear and that he recommended grommets but he said we could wait 3 months and that they may heal themselves i waited and when we took her back in July they said that her ears had healed themselves. although my friends son had them as he needed them and she said the difference was amazing as in when she took him near traffic he was a bit daunted by it as he had never really heard loud noise before and now his ears are fine. i think you should discuss it in length with your doctor as each case is individual. good luck.

I was one of the guinea pig's for this procedure and it saved my hearing !! what more can I say , going swimming is a bit of a bind or it was back then !! but modern swim plugs should not present any problems

in my experience they have been more prone to ear infections and with swimming you have to be careful but if it were my child ....
he is at a crucial age for language development so if your gp,health visitor etc advise them for that reason i would go for it
