Not recommended. Normal plasterboard warps with moisture. You should really use a special moisture resistance board instead. If its a small area, you might get away with sealing the plasterboard with a water proof adhesive mixture, but larger areas will cause the tiles to fall as the board warps. Best advice is to remove the plasterboard and replace with moisture resistance board designed for showers and bathrooms. It'll save you lots of agro and expense after a couple of years when water seaps through the grout. Not worth the risk. You could even mount the new moisture resistance boards over the original plasterboard (saves you taking them off) providing you fix them down well (dont just glue them - use water resistance drywall screws into secure battens)

You sure can, but I would recommend that you paint on some dilute PVA glue onto the board in any areas where the tiles will be in contact with water eg shower cubicle.

This will help the adhesive to bond and will act as a sealer coat to prevent too much moisture from entering the plasterboard in the event of grout failure.

Make sure you use a decent quality waterproof grout as well.

PVA it first.

You can tile straight onto plasterboard, many builders do this. Water should neve get through the grout.

I prefer to have the wall plastered but its not essential. When i come to change the tiles it'll wreck the plasterboard anyway.

Your choice, either way is fine

If you are talking shower area, use the blue stuff, otherwise you should paint new plasterboard, cause the tile adhesive doesn't like dust.

Ignore the Yes answers, use proper tile backer board. Water WILL at some time penetrate your grout, the board will swell and crumble and you'll have to start all over again. I've seen it happen dozens of times.
