Hello my name is Misty, and I am a spiritual creature, just as everyone else is. I practice no religion, but I keep an open mind.
My daughter and I many times have been called witches, although we practice no craft, we are intrigued by it's mystery.
What is something that we can do tonight on this occasion to celebrate, besides the usual trick or treating, and a huge dinner.
Something magical, but simple.

Set a place at dinner for those loved ones who have passed, invite them to join you, and eat in candlelight, talk amongst yourself about those people you've invited, fun stuff you did together, stories you've heard about them, things they liked to do, what they were famous for, etc.

Set an extra place at the table in rememberance of loved ones who have passed, or your ancestors.
Light some candles (choose colors that reflect what you're feeling), hold hands, and wish well for the spirits of the dead.
Halloween celebrates the hope of life after death. Go ahead and do something scary, like a scary movie (The Corpse Bride is awesome if you don't want something TOO scary) or a haunted house. The idea is to look directly at, to embrace, what you fear, so that it loses its power to frighten you. You take the darkness and bring it to light.
And remember, Jack O lanterns and trick or treating are part of the celebration too!

I think you should do what you find meaningful. But my daughter and I are avid sky-watchers. We have watched eclipses, full moons, new moons, storms, fair weather, all of it together. One of the sweetest memories I have is of her and I wrapped together in the same blanket watching a lunar eclipse in the middle of winter. As we looked a shooting star streamed across the sky. Sweet memories.
We observe every full moon together, along with my husband, as a ritual. We all go out and put our arms around one another, with cats along side of us and just look. That is OUR ritual. Puts our existence into perspective. We like to sky-watch at the beach too.
Bonfires are very nice but a group is needed for that. I would suggest, if possible, you get to know some pagans and just hang around and learn. They are usually very friendly. And there is always an event of some sort going on.
But for me just spending time outside at night, on the beach or anywhere where it is quiet is magical. We make our own magic and our own 'spells'. I am a loner too so my meaning is usually found alone.
I hope some of the pagans on this site have good suggestions too.

Samhain is the night when the Lord, the foremost Wiccan god, dies and descends into the Underworld. The ritual performed on Samhain (it can be celebrated this year on any day from Oct. 31 to Nov. 14) is escorting him to the Underworld. It's a very difficult ritual to do (especially when you are solitary and inexperienced with rituals), so instead, I would say you should try to get in touch with lost relatives and ancestors.
gwhiz1052: Reported. Wiccans and Pagans do not worship the devil, and your false accusations are extremely offensive.

Do a smudging ceremony with white sage and sweetgrass. Thank the Creator for all the many gifts and blessings you get each day.

Watch a good movie or just have some friends over. A festival doesn't need to have religious undertones to be 'magical'.

Hmmmmm, that really sounds like fun. Are you trying to get creepy? Have the evil laugh when trick-or-treaters come up to your home.
