I am an American and will be bringing my very sweet 4-year-old great dane with me. Is is hard to find places to rent that allow large dogs? Also, what should I expect to be paying in rent?

I just looked up the AQIS website and quarantine is a minimum of 30 days - not as bad as I thought - but you have to apply 5 months in advance and all the spaces are currently booked out.
Pity you have a great dane, they are too hard to smuggle in!!!!

hiya try bassendean.. it is close to mount lawley and the back yards are big for your dog I used to live there. I thought it was going to be a tip but I loved it and miss it a great deal I had two basset hounds. it is write near a train station the shire looks after the streets and parks really well. and you are write on the river so you can take your dog for a swim and stroll along the foreshore.... also guildford is nice a bit more pricey though and an extra 10 minutes from mount lawley..

I'm not sure about rent at the moment as the property prices have gone up but the house I used to live in .. my father owns is a 3 bedroom massive back and front yard allows dogs and 2 bathrooms is about 330 a week I think and if you share it with 2 other students that will be pretty cheep.

good luck .. you'll love it there !!!!!

Also about your dog there is no quarantine now from Australia to american canada and the uk I know I flew my two over with me to the uk .. all they need is 6 month before you leave to get rabies and microchiped .. they put them on the plane and get them off asap .. my dogs had a better and shorter flight than I did.. it does cost a bit but not as much as a stay in quarantine would...... and renting in Perth with dogs is not hard...

Your great dane may be sweet, but once you get over that quarantine period which will cost you a lot (as well as the cost of freighting a dog), you will find that finding a rental with a dog is very difficult. Perth has had a very rapid growth in real estate, with prices sky rocketing, and rents too. The vacancy rate is very low, and many landlords put a "no pets" condition. As a single and a student, you may not be able to afford to rent a house with a garden needed for such a large dog, unless it is share arrangement. Enquire with a housing officer at ECU about student accommodation for further info.

Having your woofa will definitely limit your options and possibly cost a little more in rent but it won't be impossible. Perhaps do some research on the net and look up rental properties in Perth try 'reiwa.com.au' as a start. The newspapers best for rentals are called 'The Sunday Times' and 'Saturdays West Australian' If you can somehow get your hands on copies of these or check out the websites, 'thewest.com.au' and look under To Let not sure of The Sunday Times website.. Hope you and your furry family enjoy Perth!

Yup, our quarantine laws are very strict.

I went to ECU Mt Lawley (you doing anything related to theatre or acting?). There are lots of houses in Perth, but rents are rising. Invest in a car.

Check the web link below. I found the house at the web site for keeping my dog.

The above advices are true. Bringing a dog from another country to Australia is quite difficult although in Perth it is not impossible to find a property where you can keep a dog.
