1) Apply a standard force say 'F' Newtons
2) Measure its deflection , say 'X' mm
3) Now Spring Constant K=F/X , Newton per mm

Apply a small mass to the spring and note its displacement. The spring constant is then m*9.9/d where m is the mass and d is the displacement. The 9.8 is needed to convert mass to newtons (of force) since
F = ma (where a in the acceleration of earths gravity, 9.8 m/s²)
