I had a blue and cream persian cat who was born 2 - 3 years before me. Well she died on her 18th birthday. I was just wondering... is that a good age for a Persian? I know some cats live into their 20s but I think Persians aren't as hardy. Well that's what I've heard! So was she quite a good age or is that pretty average for a persian?

a persian cats expected life span is a little shorter then say a tabby cat as they are very prone to illness,s. it is there genetic make up! but hay 18 years is a good life span! cats have 7 birthdays to our 1 so that would make her 126 wen she passed id say that pretty dam good!

I read up on Persians, I have a Himalayan and just wanted to know everything. The book I read said a healthy, happy, well taken care of Persian could live a healthy life up to 20 years. The average is 15-18. Good luck.

Thats a great age for any cat!

Pure bred cats do tend to have a shorter life span than your average mog. With Persians they can often have problems with their eyes and breathing difficulties due to their flat facial features. Persian cats can also be susceptible to PKD (Polysistic Kidney Disease), before buying a Persian cat you should make sure that they have been screened for this or if its a kitten make sure its parents are PKD negative.

The experts say because of the pure breeding that anything above 13yrs, Pure bred animals are more highly strung and are very sensitive to illness. If they live to 18 or over then good luck and best wish,s

Thats a good age. Pedigrees dont live as long as moggies and you would expect a life of around 13-14 years.
