Yesterday at work a male co-worker looked at a diamond ring I was wearing that looks and is very expensive and asked me if I was married. When I said no he said that any man who saw that ring would think to himself "I have to compete with that ?". I felt what he was implying was that it would be hard for me to find a man I assume because they would think Im high maintenance. Is that true men ??

hmmm. too me, high maintenance is observed when someone just doesn't ever seem content. you (as a man) always feel like you got to supply the goods (sex, money, material things, etc), but it never is enough. now a woman could have expensive jewelry and taste, wear nice clothes, look sophisticated, but still be a humble easy going woman.

so really it comes down to if she is really materialistic or not and if she is a woman of content. you can't look at her and tell as they both could be wearing the same thing. it is when you find out about their heart if she is high maintenance or not. you really can't judge a book by its cover as I have been blown away by people when I did this.

what about men and the cars we love to drive, yeah baby! how is that for double standards for what is "high maintenance"?

Many guys don't like the flashy kind of girl who thinks she is impressing people by wearing such stuff. What message are you trying to convey? In good taste, some kinds of jewelry might be OK, but if you are flashing the expensive stuff just to get attention, you are working it the other way.

Actually in this day and time, the girl who wears such stuff is asking for trouble. It would be nothing to some punk on the street to bonk you on the head and take all your pretties. It would be best to leave the stuff at home and only wear it when you are out on special occasions with someone who can protect you from being a victim.

The other foot. If a man walks up to you with no jewels or diamonds on - he is wearing walmart clothes.. what would you think..... poor or rich? would you go out with him?

I love my life because at this time I do not work. I have a 250K home - truck - Goldwing motorycyle and Yamaha Waverunner.. but when I tell women I'm unemployeed I tend to get the brush off... I haven't had a "real" job in a year...
so yeah it affects the way people see you....YOU have to decide if it affects the right people the right way....

I wear a 3 carat diamond ring and it is maintenance and very scarry at times. I prefer to wear it only at certain events.
It does draw attention.

I'm not a man but here's my opinion.
one or two high end pieces don't say much, maybe you like to spoil yourself a little, they could be gifts or heirlooms. BUT if I saw a woman who everyday has different high end pieces on (diff. necklace, earings, tennis bracelette) i would think that maybe she's superficial and looks to nice things rather than nice people.

If a man sees ONE RING and thinks she's too high maintnence i think that he's just too lazy to work for a good woman :)

Like an expensive car, men don't mind "maintaining" as long as the woman gives them companionship, pleasure and comfort.

Imagine you are a BMW costing $100,000+ and in the first six months you start having problems.

HONEY, THAT'S HIGH MAINTENANCE!!

The woman should be smart. I had a fiancee who told me that if I was going to buy her a ring for less than 30K, I shouldn't bother at all. But she still wanted to marry me, even though 30K was 10 times out of my range. It depends..
P.S. I didn't marry that girl.

I admire fine jewelry, and like to give my girl the best I can afford. I would think you have good taste.
