There are very discovered people right here who've given the very genuine answer especially the respond by capacity of Parashu Ram..., i circulate with it. yet, i ask your self, while your individual faith, Islam is crammed with discrpancies, why do you hardship approximately Hinduism.. the philosophy of vedas is previous your comprehension, it incredibly is of maximum grade and for the genuine and progressed religious seekers. Sanatana Dharma/Hinduism has given the utmost status GOD to female...women persons are worshipped as Gayatri, Durga, Shakti and Kali... it incredibly is the olny faith which says gods would be happy the place women persons are respected!! the prepare of Sati has no longer something to do with Vedas or Hinduism the be conscious sati replaced into utilized in sanskrit to indicate pious women persons. The prepare of sati is a social evil which got here into existance interior the medival situations using mulsim invasions the place the followers of prophet used to kill the adult men and rape their better halves and cause them to slaves. needless to say the ladies persons might want to kill themselves incredibly than being abused by capacity of barbaric muslims.

Actually, they didn't (don't) see it that way. It was supposed to be banned, but... The reason behind it was at least two fold: 1). She was his property; 2). In a poor country, nobody had money to care for widow. Of course, there is that she was supposed to be so grieved over the loss of her husband that she couldn't stand the thought of living without him.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you go out and rent the film "Water" by Deepa Mehta. Here is a section taken from the plot summary of the film.

"Chuyia does not know that according to Holy Hindu Scriptures she has been destined to live here for the rest of her life, for when a woman's husband dies', she has three options: One, to marry her husband's younger brother, if his family permits; two, to kill herself on his funeral pyre; three, to live a life of celibacy, discipline, and solitude amongst her own kind."

This film opened the Toronto International Film Festival and is frankly fabulous! It is incredibly beautiful to watch with a highly compelling story. DEFINITELY worth a rental and it will answer your question plus many more.

Culturally her life was over. She climbed on the pyre herself. Culture is a strong influence.

Well duh, they stopped burying a Pharoah's staff and wives along with him back long ago but you don't seem to be mentioning that.
