My 13 week Golden Retriever wakes us up 3-6 times a night to go poop. The stool is runny and has mucus. The vet did not seemed concerned and I know that she is reputable. I am feeding the dog the recommended amount of food(Nutro) and he doesn't quite finish it. Time to switch food? Suggestions?

Nutro is a good food.Is great for older dogs too because it doesnt contain salt.I think your pup has worms as all pups do & needs to be treated.Have the vet check a sample of feces to determine what type of worm it is.The dog will not need to go back to the vet,,just the sample.Follow directions on the meds completely.

Nutro is one of the best food around in my opinion. Puppies are known to have runny poop. Try feeding half a cup of rice to the pup with each meal until the runny poop stops. If this doesn't work try some charcoal bones that you buy at the pet store. After the poop firms the dog will go less frequently.

Your vet should have asked you to bring in a stool sample. Collect a sample today and take it to your vet to have her run tests....Your puppy could have a multitude of different, very treatable, reasons for the runny stool, and only tests will tell you what those are and how to treat your golden retriever. Your puppy is young and this shouldn't be left untreated. If a problem is found, and I'm sure there will be one found, find another vet !!! Vets shouldn't take a wait and see approach when testing a stool sample is such a simple and inexpensive thing to do !!!

with dogs, it's food in
food out..do not leave food out all day..to let them munch..
twice a day should be sufficient.
when my dog has a upset stomach, the vet says to boil some chicken with a little rice..(no fat) and feed them that till the stool gets firmer..
nutro is a really good food for you dog..my vet rec. it.
you could switch food, the vet will sell you a small 5 lb bag of dog food to see if it changes things.

Not being a vet, mind you, it sounds like a similar condition our boxer had. He was diagnosed as having colitis (runny stools, frequently going, etc.). It needs to be addressed as you cannot "cure" it, but you can make your puppy more comfortable and healthy with proper diagnosis. It can be painful for the pup, so I suggest you get him to another vet pronto!! and suggest he be tested for colitis...

the food may not agree with your dog. yes, switching foods can irritate your pet's stomach, but you may need to change it. also, this may sound weird, but if your dog will, you should try to feed him a little bit of corn bread. (or take him out to eat some grass) hope your dog gets well soon!

I have a dog too and he goes poop a lot and our suggestion was give him/her their own room and then they will want it to be clean and just leave it in their room if it still goes then you will not have to search the house for it, you will know it is in there.

Note from puppy's mommy: It's not worms. He has had multiple fecal tests and he is clean.
