I'm working on a school project and can't find specific information concerning deployments. My task is to contradict one students finding that deployments are excessive and burdensome. Can anyone help me complete that task?

that IS a tough question to answer! I hardly know where to start. You have a tough school!

We as solders swear and oath to follow all legal orders. The definition of a legal order is about 7 pages long, with many exceptions.

Deployment these days mean several tours in a hazardous area. Many military feel they have given enough.

Here are some search site to try to understand this mind blowing law!

The UCMJ does not cover deployments. Rules on deployments are set by DOD policies and those of each service.

A big problem you are going to have is by defining the terms 'excessive' and 'burdensome.'

One thing you could point out is that during WWII - people deployed at the beginning of the war and did not return until the war was over. Compared to this - one year tours are nothing.

You can't get that from the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). The UCMJ is not a guideline for how many troops or deployments are excessive. It is the rule of law for the military. Basically, if you take the oath as a soldier, you go where you are told to go, when you are told to go, and stay as long as you are told to stay. To violate that is a violation of the UCMJ. What you need to look into are Department of Defense studies into the physical and psycological affects of long term deployments. There is where you find subject matter appropriate to your task.

There's nothing in the UCMJ about this. As a Navyman I ended up doing 4 tours of duty in vietnam...was overseas for 40 months. They tried their best to get me to re-enlist and I sorta of wanted to but was homesick.
