I hate people who simply provide a URL without answering the question.
Most program has somewhere in the preferences a tab where you can specify if you want it to start or not when the system boots
You can also remove programs from the Start > All programs > Startup folder
You can also type msconfig in the start > execute command prompt and uncheck programs in the startup tab.

Because you are "new" to computers I will provide an "easier" way and later on with experience and more confidence you can pick other ways to do this (or anything else). Download an application called "Autoruns" (see link below) and then run it and click the "Logon" tab, it will show you all the applications that are started up. Uncheck the ones you don't want to start. This is "safe" because the applications are still there, you cannot "screw up" and if you ever wish to run them again at start-up simply go back and check them.
P.S: I have changed the link to take you directly to the download. You will love this application if you want to learn however, be careful what you change elsewhere until you know what you are doing. Best of luck!

Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you do need one, you can go back and recheck it.
