it's a sliding glass back patio door. they (women in the family) already picked out one, but it looks to be really long drapes that part in the middle and you can move by hand. i don't like it as it sticks out slightly too far from the glass and can let cold air come in through the sides. it also makes our family room look like it has a giant window. does anyone have any good recommendation for good, stylish type curtains for a back patio? any help is appreciated. store recommendations or links with pics and good price is also a great help =D

The drapes will take a beating in the door way. I would buy the draw type window shades that hang vertical rather than horizontal. Open they will be completely out of the way, closed they block the sun, and if the kids or dog comes in from outside with them closed, they will allow them to pass without being pulled from the wall

To keep the cold out measure from the outside of the window frame. Get thermal curtains with hooks. They are lined and work very well. You can get a sliding rod.

j.c. Penney sells bamboo ones made just for sliders ,its a set of 4 panels on a track so they're easy to use and for light control.ikea also sells this system with fabric panels both are very reasonably priced-maybe then you can use a fabric valance and compromise with the ladies good luck
