I started noticing how other Christian religions hate Catholics. Why? Is it because of different traditions?

I went to a Christian Highschool. Because I was Catholic, I was basically the outcast. I never understood why, and I still don't!

It is really amusing reading these answers.

I see a lot of "Oh, we do not hate Catholics. We just think they have a false religion."

We Catholics have tried over and over to explain our faith to you, but when we do, you say that we are misled, brainwashed, and that we should read the Bible for ourselves.

When you do not listen to another person and prejudge what they say because of who they are - THAT IS HATE

I don't hate Catholics and I do consider myself a Christian.

My guess is that some people misunderstand some of your traditions. For example: patron saints- some think you pray to them instead of praying to God, little statues of saints- some think you worship the statues and to them that is idol worship, and so on. I know I misunderstood some Catholic traditions until I decided to ask someone who had been a Catholic. Even when I didn't understand, I still tried not to judge them in a hateful way. I've had many friends who are Catholic.

The misunderstanding doesn't excuse bad behavior, but perhaps it can give you a little perspective.

No it's not true that Protestants hate Catholics. Protestanst are of a differenty culture usually. Protestans wer mistreated by their Catholic rulers centruries ago and this has always led to mistrust betwen the two.
Other Christians also do not recognize Catholics as the true founder of Christianity (which It is the grandfather of Both Christianity, and Islam).

A true born again Christian (that is one who is renewed and born of the Holy Spirit) hates anyone, but some immature Christians sadly display a curt or even 'holier-than- though' attitude. It is by the Grace of God that we are lead into more and more Truth. Tragically, very many church-goers do not know that true Christian experience and relationship with Christ MUST involve being born gain - by personal faith in and submission to Christ as one's personal Saviour and Lord. Satan loves to keep this vital miracle of transformation out of the church! he does a successful job! Some R Catholics who receive the spiritual re-birth find they cannot stay in the R Church. But, many Protestants who have experienced the re-birth also cannot stay in the (usually, but not always) - denominational church of their upbringing One big reason why born-again Christians leave their current church is because there is no encouragement or opportunity to develop the Spiritual Gifts that were given at the first Christian Pentecost and are still given! Also that many churches do not provide Bible-study/fellowship/prayer meetings, essential for spiritual growth and strength.

Old hatreds passed on from times long gone. Read your history.

Protestants have certain myths that they cultivate, such as "Catholics worship Mary," and "The Catholics worship idols, in the form of saints, statues of Mary and Jesus, " etc.

Of course, it doesn't help that the Catholic Church has some rather dark history. Read about the Inquisition, the sex scandals, and so forth. Yes, other churches have their sex scandals. But it is human to like to point the finger at your neighbour, while ignoring the beam in your own eye.

NO, our traditions are not so different, if you scratch below the surface, we both believe in God, we both believe in the Bible, we both believe in Heaven and Hell, and in repentance and making amends. Of course, Protestants, many of them anyway, simplify the process of repentance and forgiveness by repeating that "Jesus died for our sins." Yes, true. And yet we have to do our own footwork to repent and seek forgiveness. We can't just take Jesus for granted, and shrug off our responsibilities.

I like Arthur C. Clarke's take on religion. He predicts some day it will be regarded as what it is, a mental illness, and that there will be treatment for it. Maybe then, we can all get along.

Catholics have followed Christs traditions for 2000 + years, and many others have not, It all comes down to one not liking the religions laws, regulations, and traditions, so they create their own, Is it not strange that most other religions all stem from Christianity, they have all broken away just to change the interpretation to their satisfaction, and that's why we have so many denominations today, and a lot of them are nothing more than cults in my opinion.

No, I do not hate Catholics. I see Catholics as my brothers and sisters in Christ. I would never hate anyone that has fellowship with my savior. Actually, I do not hate anyone who mocks my beliefs; Although it is frustrating sometimes and I want to revert to saying negative things about them.
Getting off the subject. I admit that I sometimes say unkind things about the theology of the catholic church, that in no way reflects on the individual. (I hope)
I am a protestant who subscribes to the idea of 'sola scriptura'; If something cannot be supported by three scriptural references, it is suspect of a deviation from the faith, regardless of traditions I have been taught. I believe all believers have a responsibility to examine their faith and determine if it is of God.
Thanks for listening, and God bless!

One need only look at the history of the Catholic church to understand why ANYONE would hate them.

What many Christians don't realize however, is that their religion wouldn't be here right now if the Catholics hadn't forced themselves into power the way they did...

False pride for one. And the foolish notion that the Catholic
Church is somehow Great Babylon, and the Pope the antichrist.
Babylon was the first international city. Where all the religions
of the world were observed.
Great Babylon is ALL organized religion. All of which are based
on spiritual truths. But have gone their own way according to the wisdoms of men, and create DIVISION in the Body of Christ.

I was raised as a Christian and in 45 years I have never seen a Christian church that hated anyone. Why do people have to make things like this up I will never understand. Very sad.
