Either one is very capable. So it would all depend on which is closer.

For all that think that the Air Force is only strategic. We have the F-15s, F-16s, F-22s, A-10s, C-130 Gunships and now the F-35, which can provide close air support and provide air superiority. The Marines only have the F-18s, the Harriers, and maybe one other. For something like that, I would honestly count on the Air Force or the Navy being in closer launch range than the Marines. For a major offensive like that, the Air Force would have already established an airfield close by. The Marines would be busy trying to take the beach, and the Navy would be focused on getting the Marines in without losing a ship or an aircraft. The logical approach would be to let the Air Force cover the insertion while the Navy covers the coastline and preforms insertion of the Marines to take the beach. The Air Force has a lot of tactical aircraft, truthfully, the only real strategic aircraft we have are the high level and stealth bombers like the B-52s, B-2s, and F-117s.
This is all really basic military stratagy, let the branches do the jobs they are best at while letting them support the other branches to accomplish the main objective.

Although all branches of the U.S.military are more than prepared to excel at any given task I as an former U.S. paratrooper and infantryman will personally prefer USMC,close air support is their specialty and besides all marine officers including pilots undergo an intense ground training so I feel that in a way they can relate or probably have more inside knowledge of the desperation and urgency of an unit requesting C.A.S.How that relate to their actions? Is up to the individual performing the task, but at least the marines put their people in the position and give them the training and feel of ground troops,so is just a matter of preference!(I prefer the USMC because admire and respect the fact that they make them get down and dirty just like the infantry does)but ultimately if I'm in the situation were I need C.A.S. I will just be grateful of any one giving the support,it does not matter if is the air force, marines or a guy trowing rocks from an hot air balloon! I just be glad some one is trying to save my life!

Marine Corps. They specialize in close air support for infantry, That is pretty much all that the do. Very tactical whereas the Air Force is more strategic.

Neither i want naval gun fire support. pilots can make things worse. gunfire allows me to control the navies guns on to the enemy. If I have no choice I would choose the marine pilot as he trains for this job specifically and thus knows what he is doing. In his mind his job is to support the marines not dominate the sky.

I would Prefer the division that could get there the quickest and hand the opposing force their asses back to them as soon as possible. Air support is air support, they all carry munitions capable of supressing or eliminating the bad guys.

The Marines have a strategic plan for just this scenario. A reactionary force would be in place and standing by for engagement or extraction.

well of course naturally you would say the marines but listen to this..... if we sent the marines they could not do it without the air force. i knwo this because it is my job to direct the aircraft in situations liek that active duty air force. i would stillr athe rhave the air force fly in for the CAS simply because it would be the air force guiding them and there is a better level of communication and understanding with air force to air force than air force to marines.

Whichever can get there the quickest.

It is called joint operations for a reason. All the services cooperate when the chips are down. The rivalry stuff is just for back behind the lines and bravado.

Why do human beings even shop asking this question? Planes coming in for low altitude assaults makes great air tutor stunts yet detrimental methods. interior the actual worldwide you're actually not likely to ask for any particular form of air help. you will request 'fireplace help' and additionally you gets regardless of is assigned on your sector. And in case you're in deep shinola - you're actually not likely to desire to look ahead to an extremely low point jet to come again on your region. you will desire a JDAM from that unglamorous heavy bomber orbiting at 40,000 ft.
