I am tyring to get my 3 year old to potty in his potty. However, he won't stay on the potty for more than a minute. I give him books, colors, puzzles, and even candy to keep him occupied. He doesnt even pee after trying for more than an hour to get him to sit on the potty!! He shos interest in peeing. He'll say "Mommy Pee!" and run into the bathrooom to use it but then gets off after a minute. Then when you try to put a diaper or waterproof undies on him he crys and runs back to the bathroom and sits for another minute. Hes a very hyper little boy who hardly ever sits still for more than a minute. I should mention to that he has a speech problem and only speaks like a 18 month old would. Any help or thoughts is appreciated!!!

I try not to show him that i'm upset. As a matter of fact, he gets a sticker on his chart and when he tries to pee he gets one and gets praised just for his efforts. Then when he gets 10 stickers he gets a present! Thanks!

My nephew is 4 yrs old, and autistic. He is very smart! Also very hyper and bullheaded. My sister-in-law has found a way to keep him on the toilet. Try using a game boy as an incentive. She only lets him play it while he is on the potty. So, he keeps his mind busy while his body is fairly still. He gets to play the family nintendo64 for half an hour after, if he goes #2.
It may be something you could try.

Ok I use to set my son on the big toilet backwards and he loved to flush the thing after he did his bussiness then I have a friend who use to drop cherrios in the toilet and he got to take aim at them which worked pretty good I guess. Another friend had a yard and the kid got to go around it watering the trees and planets believe it or not lol.Try pull ups they are great these days so Im told. Your doing the right thing always remember this you can replace the furniture but you don't have forever to potty train lol I know a 15 yearold who still poops his pants so stick to it and go for prize while he's young. try keeping undies on em througfhout the day at the least half the day until they figure it out. It takes time remember this. Thats the biggest part of all lol. Good Luck you sound like a great mom keep going I have faith in you. This can be done!!!! hahahaha!!

Unfortunately, he has to learn how to control his bladder - turning it on that is. You should avoid the time thing and instead focus on how to help him "turn it on". Have you tried using cheerios in the toilet as a target? They make toys now (targets, etc.) to help with this. Also, try paying closer attention to when he is peeing so that you can get him to the potty at the optimal moment! i.e., early morning first thing, after eating etc. There really is nothing more that you can do than this other than giving it more time. He obviously feels a lot of pressure from you and is upset when he feels like he isn't progressing - your wishful thinking is coming through. Just keep reinforcing to him that he will eventually be able to do it and praise him for trying!

Good luck.

Get his dad to spend a couple days potty training him! That may help to have his dad do it!

Just giving him stuff and walking away....does not work....read him a book while he's there.
