My mum she lost a lot of weight but...it didnt work out to well. Something happened and now she has a collection of water in her stomach that is just a big bubble and the doctors wont get rid of it and she cant afford a tummy tuck. If all goes well it works wonders...after surgery the first couple of days your extremly sore and need someone to help you get up and move around...Other than that she musta lost over all about 100 lbs...its amazing. Also take a look at do you have skin elasticity(This means does your skin get lots of stretch marks, if you were to lose the weight would your skin shrink with you.) Skin can be really annoying when it is just hanging around trust me, LOL...All and all great surgery great thing to do for some people it has worked more than wonders, for others its only worked a little bit...and then...EVEN for more you might just go back to your old eating habits your stomach will stretch back and youll gain your weight back. Really you have to have a good mind set which is once its off your going to stick to a good diet and a good excerise plan...

My father and a close friend have both underwent the gastric bypass route. I see that some people responding to this do not really understand the procedure or confuse it with stomach banding.....as you know a very different thing.

The surgery is serious.....and it takes several weeks to recover and be able to get aqround in relative comfort.....it is major surgery.

The body will process the food differently after the surgey and the odor(sorry) will be offensive to most people....and will be a permanent condition after surgery. many gastric bypass patients need their own bathroom....just for their use as even family members do not want to deal with the different odor.

You will loose weight, lots of it. However, over the years....5-10-20-you will gain it back unless you change your basic eating habits. Some food will not be as well tolerated also after the procedure....some gastic bypass patients feel poorly after eating much more frequently than before the procedure by my personal observation.

I would think long and hard about this and really investigate other alternatives like liquid/restrictive calorie diets aor stomach banding, staples etc.

Being very overweight is not fun and not terribly healthy or good for your self image. Loosing weight is never easy. Gastric bypass is very effective and easy in terms of loosing weight....I think there are definetly downsides to be considered in terms of the long term change to your body in processing food and possibly putting the weight back on. Hope all works out for you on this.....

I have not had one but a close friend of mine did. She dropped over 100 pounds in 8 months and is now faced with lots of loose, sagging skin, and the fact she cannot eat more than an ounce or so of food at any given time. I would strongly suggest diet and exercise as a better way of weight loss and less invasive as opposed to this surgery.

Go with Lap Band... Much less evasive.

You will definitely lose weight. Most of the people that have had this surgery have lost 80lbs or more.
The biggest thing about these surgeries is the diet after wards. If you stick to it you will do fine... IF not you will go back to your original weight, or more.
Hope that helps.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

Depends on how much weight you have on you. My cousin had it done, lost 100 pounds in a matter of weeks (2 or 3). But he ended up in the hospital, his cholesterol was off the charts and he was dehydrated. Be careful.
