I'm an atheist, and don't believe in him at all. But I was raised in the Baptist church and was taught how god loves everyone. If that is so, why do roses have thorns, why do people often find love when they are not free to give themselves to it? Why do our pets die twice as fast as we do?

You didnt lose one of your sweet kitties today did you? God is just that. NATURE, the nature of things, the process of life and death, the timing of all living matter, and not an old man in heaven saying yea or neigh to me when I die

It's a good question and I'm not sure anyone can really answer it. It is a shame you have stopped beleiving in GOD for he is real. Now for your other questions.
Why do roses have thorns?.... Would you really appreciate the beauty just as much if it didn't?
Why do people often find love when they are not free to give themselves to it?
People confuse love and lust all the time. We as a given whole are an instant gratificiation race. We want it and we want it now
Why do our pets die twice as fast as we do?
Because GOD doesn't need to teach them anything like love

If you were raised in a baptist church, I would think you already know the response you will be getting. SIN is the source of pain, suffering, and things that cause distress.
Jesus bore our pain and sickness. Through a relationship with Him alone is there peace that passes all understanding.

No one likes to suffer unless they are just masochistic, but you can only be made stronger through the trials. Each time you go through a painful experience you learn something new...wither about yourself or about the world at large. and just as gold must be put through a fire to be made pure , so are the souls of man. If you were never given reason to doubt your faith and find it strong enough to withstand what life throws at you then you would be coming to God with a faith that may simply have been indoctrinated. If your faith is strong because you have gone through pain and suffering and have realized God is there for you in all things then you will come to him of free will.

There is a balance in the Universe. For all happiness there is hurt, for all light there is darkness and for all 'good' there is 'bad'. The Baptist concept leaves a lot to be desired in explaining the Universe. I have always thought so anyway. Too simplistic. Too immature.

You know pirate as a child who suffered years of being molested, I asked myself the same. But I have to tell you it was through the devastation of my body, and soul that forced me to reach inside myself, and touch something pure. I cannot explain it, but I felt connected, and not alone. Since then I was just aware that their was more. What that more is I cannot explain, or define it for you. But as a child, and now as an adult I realize that it is the darkness(the trials and the tribulations of this world) that we must walk through so that we may know the light(self discovery)
And unfortunately we must experience both for the comparison.
I wish you well.

You make a good point. Whenever you look between the lines in the bible, you see that "God" is very jealous, insecure to the point that he needs lesser life forms to kiss his rear end, and in my opinion an IDIOT. If he's so all knowing, all powerful, and a symbol for good, why does he allow the concept of evil to exist and let it have free run across the earth? (What's up with that dude, hio trying to sell you something in one of the other answers? Is he lost?)

I am a mother and I took my son to the doctor when he had to have stitches-I knew this had to be done because he needed healing
When I took him there and they were stitching him-he looked up at me as to ask "Why are you letting them do this to me" Can't you see this brings me pain? Don't you love me?
My son didn't realize that he had to endure a short amount of pain before having a healthier life later.
God does the same for us
We are here for only a short time-our time on earth is a passing in the wind-the bigger picture is eternity with Him

As I understand it God is spirit. Because of this the only way God can experience pain, tears and suffering is through the pain, tears and suffering of the creatures he/she creates

I am agnostic but was raised in a Roman Catholic church and then into a Babtist church. You know, I was engaged once and was ready to spend the rest of my life with this girl and then she just left me one day. So I dont know what kind of humor God or Satan has but its pretty sick. Its so sick that they allow little girls to be molested, babies to be brutally killed, and people die just because of the tone of their skin.
