Has anyone used the Sony R1 camera? I like the look of it and the spec seems to give everything I want. I don't want or need an SLR. Are the results as good as they should be?

It has a great lens and some pretty advanced features. But for me it's not worth the asking price. The wide end of the zoom isn't wide enough for me and like all cameras with an electronic viewfinder, it's horrible for action shots (including kids and pets.) I'm also into night time street photography, for which the R1's zoom lens simply isn't sensitive enough.
Different people, different cameras. I'd spend the money on a Nikon D50 digital SLR. (You say you don't want a dSLR, but if you're going to spend dSLR money on a camera that's as bulky as a dSLR, why not demand the performance of a dSLR?) Or for several hundred dollars less, I'd get a point & shoot that actually fit in my shirt pocket.

its semi SLR digi cam, its compact at the same time because you can't change the lens,
and it costs like an SLR
so worthless
go for a SLR digicam where you can change the lens in future.

It is a great camera.

It doesn't do action that well, but anything else. Woo Hoo...go for it.
