The statement is actually this, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
It is referred to as the "Golden Rule."
It means to treat others with the same respect and dignity you want them to treat you with.

You have it wrong. It's "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" - quite a different meaning. Yours means an eye for an eye. The correct quotation means to treat others with respect, dignity, love, just the way you would want them to treat you.

I think the saying goes:
Do unto others, as you wish to be done unto you.

You've kind of got it backwards, but I'm sure you have good intensions. What's you're referring to is called "The Golden Rule" and can be stated many different ways.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
"Love your neighbor as yourself."
"What you do not wish upon yourself, extend not to others."
"What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow man."
"Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you."

What I have learned through through the study of my Bible is what goes around comes around. If you do evil to others it will come back at you. Not once, but many times. If you do good then that will come back at you many times. We each have a choice to make, and we need to look at the consequences of our actions. We need to show more love for others no matter what.

we are by nature self absorbed creatures. He tend to make sure our needs are met. In the same way we should view others and be open to help when the need arises. Also we should give them the same treatment we ourselves would want...by the way you wrote that wrong.

It is a reversal of Jesus' statement, "Do for others what you want them to do for you."
Reciprocation is a natural response, but "going the extra mile" is a demonstration of love.
