Australia has hundreds of surf beaches.
Some of the best are...
Burleigh heads
Bells beach
Margaret river
Newcastle beach
Portsea back beach.
These are probably the most famous and most popular. There are a variety of beaches not too far from Sydney also.
In 1983 or 84 (cant remember) Bells Beach held the RIpCurl World championships in waves reaching 7 Meters (23 feet). The waves there are some of the most powerful in the world because they come directly from the Antarctic region
All the pro surfers had to use the "Locals" boards because nobody was prepared for the size of the sets rolling in. I was there and it was totally AWESOME.
