Has a Bassett ever won Best of Show at a major show? I'm wondering if the Bassett's natural body shape makes it hard to show to its best advantage. It seems the very characteristics that define the breed and the judges look for work against the dog in anything but best of breed judging. Frustrating!

YES THEY HAVE

(Of course I have been around for more decades - 4- at this than most people have been in years.)

Most non-show people think the "major" shows are limited to the 1 or 2 on TV. Actually there are many major shows in the view of people who breed and show. The 5 day show in Lexington is very very important.

GO to the National Breed CLub for bassets. They will have kept records of the dogs in their breedi and their show points to determine the overall standings among dogs in the breed. Nearly all the breeds give additional points for dogs in its breed who go BIS.

You will have to get on the phone and talk to people - don't think you can just pull it off the website.

Dogs of different breeds are NOT being compared against each other in judging for Group and BIS.

They are being compared against their breed standard as to how closely they meet it.

IF the Basset doesn't look like the natural body shape of a basset or move like a bassetshould according to the standard, it defintitely doesn't win.

There are breed standards set that the judges should be following. That way if the animal is a "top dog" and a better specimen of his breed than any other dog he would win best in show. I cannot ever remember seeing a Bassett win best in show.....sorry.

I find the whole show thing very frustrating. It's all very, very subjective, and to me seems to be who the handler is.

There some websites to check results of the biggest most famous shows. There are reusults of regional shows on the CKC, and AKC websites also.

I've never won BOS, and would love to. Would make all this show nonsense worth it.
