When I started doing some serious Bible study, I could no longer justify participation in halloween activities. Believing with every ounce of my being that there is a satan that is alive and doing very well in our world - giving him an "innocent" opening into our children's lives is outlandish.
I talked to my son about it, and his concern was not getting candy. We made an agreement that we would go out ot eat or to a movie during trick or treat and the day after halloween, he could pick out two bags (halloween candy is half price then) of his favorite candy.
As for missing out on fun, our Church had a fall festival with games and songs and it was safely in our fellowship hall. No worry about bad weather, not being seen by a driver or pedophiles.

Yes, Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Halloween. You can look in any encyclopedia and see for yourself the roots of this holiday. They are from pagan origin and is in direct contradiction with the teaching of the bible. Halloween is appeasing the spirits of the dead.

The bible states at Ecclesiastes 9:5,10
5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.
10 All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She´ol, the place to which you are going.
Psalms 146:4
4 His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish.

These are not scripturally based and are pagan practices; God hates liars, Satan is the father of the lie.
These practices true Christians shun and do not partake of. Our everlasting life is certainly worth protecting and is worth anyones consideration before participating in ungodly practices.

Many say that there is no harm in allowing children to have fun, but if they really put faith in the bible and believe it to be true they would have no part in things that he does not approve of.

If the reason you do not let your children go trick or treating is because of Halloweens pagans roots, you better check out the way we celebrate Christmas too after all it's got pagen roots. If you as a christian feel convicted not to participate in Halloween by a tender conscious then bottom line is that participating would be a sin. I tend to say that if it's not wrong to let your children play dress up 364 other days of the year, and really do you think your child is worshiping Satan by asking for candy, then it's probably not wrong on that one day. I respect your conviction though and anything you give up for God is a Glory to him

My daughter will be out tonite trick or treating. She is a pagan
child and I am looking forward to celebrating it with her.
But if your religion does not belive in Halloween thats fine
I respect that. Have a wonderful fall season.
Halloween is not about the devil. It is Pagan New Year
Samhain. Where we celebrate and remember our ancestors.

some of you touched on the safety points of Halloween.
I had a Halloween party for my daughter from the time
she was in kindergarten til last year.I feel that as long as she is with an adult while she is trick or treating she will be safe and
if you worried about the candy , well if in doubt about something
throw it out.

Well I think its a fun thing kids should be allowed to do. Its a fun tradition. Its part of growing up. I never did it, I wanted to but I lived in a country where it wasn't such a popular holiday at all.

One thing that would worry me as a parent is that someone would make my child sick by giving out poisoned candy. That would bother me. There are a lot of sick people out there.

I allow my two kids to dress up and attend supervised parties. The whole door to door trick or treat thing is not allowed. Times have changed since I was a kid. There are too many dangers including sex offenders who aren't behind bars where they belong.

My little brother does not allow his daughters to do so.

He thinks that allowing little children to dress up as Ninja Turtles and Smurfs and run amok begging for candy is SATAN WORSHIP!!

*laughs*

I'm quite certain that if there IS a Devil - that he is laughing his butt off at all the stupid Christians who think that secular Halloween fun is SATANISM - as he dons his 3-piece suit and heads for Washington DC

some of you people really make me laugh,Halloween is not evil, you would know that if you read anything besides the bible.its a wonderful experience for children.a time when kids can really be kids,it makes me crazy to know some parents wont allow their children to experience Halloween because of silly, unresearched superstition.

Why not just let them be kids..What do your kids do on Halloween? Watch other kids go out having fun while they sit at home and do nothing?

Yes, and if you're like me, you catch major hell for it. I have to wonder sometimes why they care so much. You're the parent, you decide. As for everyone else, they need to worry about themselves. Why you don't allow it is none of thier business. You don't have to explain your decisions to anyone but your child.
