I would really like it if people would refrain from giving a 'thumbs down' just because they disagree with the response. I give a 'thumbs up' when I find an answer that has merit. I rarely give a 'thumbs down' - only when the person is being mean, nasty and beligerant without any merit to their argument.

Does anyone else agree? Can we agree to disagree?

I totally agree with you
I only do thumbs down if it reads
reported or contains slander, cussing or making fun of
I don't do thumbs down just because they don't believe what I do

I agree, I only give a thumbs down if it is slightly insulting, nothing to do with the question, a general rant that means nothing etc. If it is an honest answer then its fine, everyone is gonna have different opinons and you have to expect that. Giving a thumbs down just because someone has a different idea, religion, belief etc just seems childish

I give thumbs down for answers that are antagonistic (like name calling) or cut and past pages long or sometimes just really annoying. And sometimes for just wrong information.

Thumbs up to good honest well intentioned answers. Sometimes if I see thumbs down on a good answer I will thumbs up just to even it out. Occasionally I have accidentally clicked thumbs down - oops - and give more thumbs up to counter it.

Sometimes you will see the whole thread with thumbs down to anyone of a certain faith (or lack of it) no matter what the validity of the answer. I think sometimes I get the thumbs down just because I am Pagan. But thats life and this is only an internet board and it really doesn't count.

Personally, I do not give a thumbs down if I disagree with the response.

I do though if it is derogatory, out right wrong, or does not address the question or at least some point in one of the responses.

ADDED: There may be two nearly identical responses, and I will give one a thumbs down, but not the other, for a simple reason.

If one answer reads, for example, "Martians are idiots" I would give it a thumbs down, but if it said "I THIINK Martians are idiots" then I would not, because that would be that person's opinion, right or wrong, and therefore must be accepted as a correct response, even though a wrong opinion. (Clear as mud?)

I give thumbs down only when I feel the question was a bad question or someone gives a sarcastic answer.

I'm in agreeance with you, but sadly, since it costs nothing to give a thumbs down, many people will continue to do so simply because they don't agree with what is being said.

I expressed my favourite colour and got a thumbs down-I'm sorry for having a subjective viewpoint.

I give thumbs-down for wrong answers, as well as for the mean ones. It's not merely that I disagree - it's that the person who wrote the response simply got it wrong.
