*please have a read back at those*

anyway ive been back today and had it re-cleaned inside (i never had needle in this gum though) and could feel pain in it the odd times :/

anyway, ive found out i'm NOT having a crown and ive got to go back on the 28th december to have the fillings done...i'm not happy with the date so i'm going to try and get a cancelation, but are fillings inside a good method after root canal?

my tooth discoloured (slightly) when i first had the root canal a few weeks ago, now it seems ok - was the discolourment of the tooth sign it was still infected?, thanks for the help.

READING YOUR STORY IN DEPTH I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD RENDER SOME ADVICE FOR YOUR TEETH.
ANYTIME A TOOTH HAS UNDERGONE A ROOT CANAL, THE NOURISHING TO THE INSIDE OF THE TOOTH (NERVE, VENUOLE AND ARTERIOLE) ARE GONE. SUBSEQUENTLY, WHAT RESULTS IS THAT THE TOOTH NO LONGER RECEIVES A VITAL BLOOD SUPPLY FROM WITHIN, THUS IT BECOMES WEAKER. DUE TO IT BECOMING WEAKER, IT MUST BE STRENGTHENED BY A CROWN. THIS PROVIDES IT SURROUNDING PROTECTION FROM EVERY SIDE. OBTAINING REPEATED FILLINGS FOR A TOOTH WHICH PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED ROOT CANAL THERAPY HOLDS A POOR PROGNOSIS. SEEK A PRIVATE DENTIST TO MAKE YOU CROWNS.

Not much fun are they? I've had about six of them.

Most of mine were "filled", and a couple were "crowned". I didn't notice much of a difference between the two methods and I haven't had any problem with discoloration. However, over the years some of them have become "brittle".

I think the condition of your tooth, and the amount of damage usually determines which method your dentist decides to use.

I just had to have one of the crowns replaced, it lasted about 12 years. The roots cracked and the crown fell out - post and all. I ended up deciding on an "implant" this time. Talk about expensive!

I think if your tooth was still infected you would know. I'm sure it would be very painful. My husband's tooth abscessed and not only was it painful, the entire side of his face became swollen.

I don't think you need to worry whether or not your root canal is filled or crowned. The filling would certainly be "cheaper" than a crown. I'd go with whatever your dentist feels will work.

Best of luck.

The truth is I had a root canal recently myself. It is really hard to tell if the tooth with the root canal is hurting or the one next to it sometimes. The discoloring sounds like a "bruise". Which would explain why it is ok now. I'm really surprised that they are not going to do a crown?? I thought those fillings were only temporary.

The discoloration is probably dried blood in the pulp chamber. A root canal tooth will always be darker. They are also more brittle and break or crack easier. They always have to fill the canal after they remove the nerves from the tooth. They usually use a material called gutta percha.

i had a root canal done a few years ago. the first time i went in was to drill the back of my tooth and then it was just plugged with something to stop infection. a few weeks later i went back and got the root removed. the tooth has lost some of its colour(light grey colour now) but this is due to the root being remopved not infection

Man. I had one of those a few months ago. They are VERY sore days and days afterwards. I then got back-filled and the crown eventually went on. it was about two months before I was fully pain free.

Good luck xxB

Yes, I've got two root canals done and have had fillings. Don't seem to have any problems.
