I live in the outer Wigan area, have 4 children, no family nearby and none of my friends have time to babysit. (and those friends don't have any teenagers to babysit either).

I consequently never go out .. except to do the food shopping when the kids are at school.

If you go to the social work department they can supply you a list of registered childminders who you can trust and rely on. You will probably find someone on the list in your area who is willing to help you out night or day.

Baby sitters cost to much money. What the going rate is like 8.00 an hour per child! We just take our son everywhere. If we can't take him we don't go. He is 3 and has never been baby sat before and has never been away from us. We don't have any friends that can baby sit or family that is close either. So we take care of our child.

do you go to church? get one of the kids from church to do it for you....
do you have a neighbor kid? ask one of them....
ask your friends, who do they use? recommendations are a great thing....
contact a middle school or high school home ec department maybe one of the teachers could recommed a student. (i say home ec because where i live, learning babysitting skills was part of what you learned in that class along with the cooking and sewing)...
do you have a day care provider? they may have a recommendation or maybe one of the employees is willing to sit for a few hours....

The local library may have some details of baby sitting circles. This is where a group of mums take it in turns. It may be worth a try?

maybe put an advert in the paper and see what comes up you dont have to say yes to a person just because they have called up take your time and get to know the person before you say yes to them and leave them on your own with your children also make sure the children like them.
good luck

Me and the wife are in the same boat but thats purely because i wont leave my kids with just anyone, i guess its just the joys of parenthood, we go out as a family and do things together which we find just as enjoyable, better haveing kids with us than leaveing them with strangers, just be carefull

I had the same issue, and had great success with Craigs List. It's a free internet classified site. It is great. You just post what you are looking for and you will get calls and/or emails. It worked great for me. When you go to the site, you just pick your State and City and you will be posting your ad to locals in your area.

Your are welcome to email me if you need help.
Good Luck

If any of your kids are in daycare, that is a great place to find sitters. They are usually trained in child CPR and like kids. I hope this helps.
