my husband announced last week, after i'd made him a humble plate of iceland chips...that "a fart just shot through his stomach, and it reverberated like lightning"...i was inclined to think "wow, is my cooking that explosive, cause, i never knew i had it in me"...my husband thought it might have been an iceland rancid fat special...what worried me is that my tummy never responded in quite the same way? does that mean my tummy is more hardy, having had to deal with nearly 20 years of my cooking...or is it that my hubby stretches foods well beyond the sell-by date, and that was just a climax of his "modus operandi"? oh well, lemme try some more of those chips while i wait for a response or 2...

You best show him how to work either the oven or the toaster. He's going to need one of them soon enough.

My cooking? Fantastic! The less you do to it -apart from eating it raw of course- the better. My stomach? My ex uncharitably referred to it as cast-iron but that was only because he was a wus, and is now of course, an ex- wus.

My wife does not cook, I do all the cooking at home. It's a hobby of mine. Making a good, healthful dinner is the way I relax and transition from the work day into the evening. Americans don't eat "chips" quite the way you do. We tend to eat meals with a variety of starches ranging from rice and pasta to potato's cooked in various methods. So as a chip chef, I only cook them about three times a year!!

The art of cooking is not one of simply heating up food and following a recipe or packet, it's about understanding what things taste like and how foods go together. Food is about flavor and flavor comes from freshness. Old food just tastes nasty.

Whatever you're planning to cook, think about freshness, flavor, and presentation. No matter what you make, it will taste better!!

I don't think I can even rate my cooking. The best thing I can make is pasta. Oh and a decent chocolate cake if I have my recipe with me. I cannot cook any vegetables without a recipe, I'm totally useless in the kitchen. Luckily I'm single, so I only need to look after myself! When I do have people over I try my best to serve a finger lunch, or we just go get some pizza.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate myself an 8. I may have cooked professionally for quite a few years, but I admit that I still screw things up from time to time. You should have seen my bread the other day! Ooof. The pan's still soaking.

My husband's the same way though. When I cook, he farts. He loves the food (which I believe since he scarfs it down), but he has a worse gas problem than me! :)

Interesting... I have never had the reaction of "a fart just shot through..." Perhaps I am doing something wrong, or right.

I would rate my cooking about a 9 on a scale of 1-10. It is fresh, usually using organics where possible, and always with a healthy amount of wine--both in the food and in the chef.

Well, if my live-in ever said anything like that about my cooking, he would fend for himself the rest of the week.
I cook very well, 8-9 of 10, & he has always said I am a gourmet cook, I am not, but he is at least bright enough to not insult me!

your iceland chip story really doesnt make any sense to me - maybe i'm just not that verbose.

anyway, my cooking rates as a 1 on a scale of 1-10. everything i cook sticks to the pan, i follow recipes to the letter and still **** them up, my cakes come out flat as pancakes, my sauces are always too runny and I have to put in half a box of cornflour to thicken them, i burn things on the outside but they're still frozen in the middle... need i go on.

how is iceland chips a concuction of something you 'cooked'?

When you cook- it should be from scratch and then start rating your own cooking- partially cooked is not a good way of saying you're a a good cook.

But yeah i am and i'm quick and i use raw ingredients- for instance last night i made my sis in law big fat chippie like chips using maurice piper dirty potatoes. I started by peeling them and washing them and cutting up and frying them...... they were great. But it doesn't take a genius to make chips.

I'm a very good cook and I have a very weak stomach so I really have to watch what I fix and the dates on things. On some weekends I cook for all my freinds and they all seem to enjoy it
