sure: the best way for learning a language is to go in the country . I've been in Canada but in Québec so i spoke in french and it didn't help me for my english. But i returned in france with a very strange french accent

I took French in junior high and got A's. But when I got to college and took a French course, I found that not only had I forgotten most of what I learned in junior high, but I also had no talent for learning a language. It takes a good memory, but it also takes a feel for the language that I think is very hard for Americans. We speak a somewhat bastardized version of English; learning another language usually means learning your own language very well, and that does not come easy in American public schools. Also, American public schools have very few good teachers, and so those who learn a foreign language usually do so by paying for specialized lessons, like Berlitz (spelling?) or one of the new on-line or computerized courses.

Je parle le français.
I took French at university and lived in France for a while, the best way to learn is to spend time in the country of the language you are learning.

No, school lessons in French are not enough. You have to go beyond school lessons as well as converse with French people even if you have a limitted knowledge in French. French people will correct your language mistakes without mocking at you. Your can also watch television programs in French. If you really want to learn French you have to devote a couple of hours to your French lessons

J'ai pris mes etudes francais quand j'ai eu douze ans et c'etait un part de l'immersion francais. Par le fin de l'annee, j'etais fluidement bilingue!
I'm an anglophone and found that learning French gave me a much better understanding of my mother tongue, English. The more languages you study, the better you understand languages overall. I noticed this when I took German, Italian and ASL. I am now learning Arabic.
By the time you begin to study your third language, you've pretty much got the whole scheme sorted out.

(that is if you have some idea how to speak french)
Anyway, allez la frances!! lol
