Honda civic....good on gas...reasonably priced...good looking car....safe..and insurance is not bad.....when something goes wrong with them ( which is rare they usually last forever) parts are not as expensive as most cars to fix....they also offer great warranties on the car

A word of warning to you, my friend: Don't buy into this "only the Japanese make cars that last" diatribe. My first Air Force commander had a Honda Civic that had more problems than you could shake a stick at. Also, the Big Three have pretty much closed the reliability gap with the Japanese -- as long as you maintain the car properly, an American made car will last just as long as a Japanese car. Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying the Japanese models you mentioned aren't good cars. What I AM saying is others here would have you believe the Ford Focus and Chevy Aveo are inferior in every way to the competition you have listed. Not true.
Can't really advise you on the Chevy Aveo or Hyundai Accent because I don't know anyone who owns either of those, although my best friend's sister-in-law has a Hyundai Santa Fe and hasn't had a single problem with it in three years. My friends who have Civics have good things to say about them, but I have to remember that lemon my first commander had. The few people I know who have had Corollas tend to complain about the lack of amenities and the cost increase to GET some of those amenities, but I have a high school teacher who survived a head-on collision at 45 MPH in a Corolla. Which leaves the Ford Focus -- everyone I have talked to who owns one loves it. They love the fact that they didn't have to sacrifice gas mileage for passing power and they all say they're very comfortable. I'm 6 feet 4 inches tall and sat in my friend's Focus and had plenty of leg room (which is something I can't say when sitting in a Civic or a Corolla). And I have to say I was surprised at what he paid for an almost-fully-loaded model.
I'm sure most people are going to try and sell you on the Civic and Corolla, but I'm telling you that it would definitely be worth your time to test drive a Focus.

The Corolla or Civic. Just get whichever one you like best, because you just can't go wrong. If it's me, most likely I'm getting the Civic. I sell Toyotas, and the Corolla is just a boring car to me. But then again, I'm under 50 ;-)
The domestic haven't closed ANY gaps. There is a SUBSTANTIAL difference between the companies that begins to widen exponentially after the 3rd year.
There are lemons from every manufacturer, but you have to be on odds. Toyota and Honda have A LOT few state declared lemons than the domestics....we are talking orders of magnitudes difference. Odds are, you will drive more trouble free miles in the Civic or the Corolla than any other car on that list.
If you have any doubts, go drive old cars. Drive them all, make sure they have 80k or more miles on them. The differnce is staggering.
In addition to the reliability and gas milage the Civic and Corolla give you, you will lose far less money on these cars. Depreciation is a fact of life for cars, and the fact is, that the Civic and Corolla will be worth 1/2 what you pay for them 5 years after buying them. It only takes 2 years for the Focus, Aveo, and Accent to reach that mark. At 5 years, these models are worth 1000 -2500 tops, while the civic or corolla will still bring 7-10k.
Its your money, choose wisely.
I forgot, both the civic and the corolla have stellar crash ratings.

All of those cars would be fine choices. The Aveo and Accent I believe fall into a slightly lower price class then the others. The Civic was just redesigned while the Corolla is nearing the end of its cycle. The Focus is a good, high quality car but it to has been on the market for quite awhile although it has received many upgrades over the years. The Hyundia and Chevy have been completely redesigned for the new model year and are two very nice vehicles for the price. My suggestion, the Aveo. Its an attractive little car, well built, nice interior all for a decent price, and I believe they just added a long warranty. Dont listen to the Japanese cars are superior crowd, its simply isn't true anymore. All car companies build high quality cars.

Focus is the best choice if you consider price/reliability/fuel efficiency. Civic and Corolla are as good as the Focus, but you have to pay some money extra, specially if you want some extra things in the car.
Aveo and Accent are good cars for basic transportation

Corolla hands down. There is a reason why Toyota is the second topselling car makers in the US second to GM. It is predicted that toyota will surpass GM is under 5 years. The Corolla line is built to last. My sister and my girlfriend have corollas and those things are tough. They save gas and they have decent room for 2 adults, 2 kids. The civic would be second, then NEWER accent, chevy, then ford. There's a little joke about fords. Found On Road Dead or Fix Or Repair Daily. I drive an 84 300zx turbo and gas kills me.

I would throw out all of those but the Civic and the Corolla. Both of those are the top two out of your list. The thing is I would go Toyota, they are the best. Last long, fuel, comfy and wont kill your pocket in the big pic!

I would say Honda Civic b/c they have been around for forever. You can easily go 150,000 miles with no major problems, they are roomy and good on gas
