Hi all.I have a lovely female siamese kitten who was bought alongside her brother. He is very clean and uses the litter tray, she however seems to wee on beds if the doors are left open,if not she will use the litter tray.
How can i deter this?,apart from obvious answer of shutting the doors?.Thanks,G.G.

Give her her own space and her own box.. some cats just dont like to share... especially with her male counter part.

Kitty urine is strong, take the time and spend the extra $$ to clean everything properly.. so she dont go back to that spot.. and keep her in a small area , slowly giving her more room as she proves she is trust worthy enough

oops... had to add... scoop that box daily, many kitty's wont go in a dirty pan.

Is she spade yet? If not females will mark teritory as well as make cats. If you catch her in the act, spray her with water or use a kitty time out. (Pet carrier for 10 minutes.) Siamese are very hard to break of bad habbits, so do it now while she is young. Also, try putting a litterbox in the bed room. it could be she's just having accedents, much like a young child would. Try a pet no product with her or buy a cat litter called Cay Attarct. you can get it at Pet Smart. I have 2 Siamese myself, so I know how easy it is to love one and how hard it can be when they are bad kitties!

the easiest way to deter the kittens from doing things you don't want in the wrong place is by using a citronella based spray [available from most pet shops] usually called training spray it smells of lemons which cats and dogs don't like much, BUT it smells lovely and fresh for us!!
Spray the areas you want to keep the kitten away from this will also of course deter them from sleeping on the bed, however its not fair to encourage the kitten to sleep on the bed with you then get cross if she tiddles all over it. be consist ant and make no go areas a real no go, within a week or so you should have cracked the problem. remember to respray the bedding every day/other day so the small stays strong enough to deter them.

Is it possible the cat has a urinary tract infection? Do you leave the cat home alone for extended periods of time? These things can cause a cat to do this. Solutions could be to take her to the vet and double check her health, or when you leave the house, give her an old blanket or sweater that has your scent on it so she will not be scared when you leave her.

if these dont work, ask your vet or just keep the doors closed, I know its a hassle but she is probably worth it.

Good Luck, I hope this helps.

If you have two cats you should at least have two litter boxes and if you live in more than a one story, you should have at least two more boxes on the second floor. She may not want to use the same box as her brother. If this doesn't work, you can purchase a product called Feliway to encourage her to use the litter box and discourage her from using the beds. It's expensive, but it does work.

When you see her do it outside the litterbox, grab her gently from the neck, like a mama-cat, say NO and put her in the litterbox. And check if she has a urinary tract infection. Collect some urine by putting a sterile cup under her tail as she pees, and have it analysed, because this is a symptom of infections. If she turns out to have sth, also check the male, because UTI can be lethal to male cats (causes blockage).

I agree with having her tested for a UTI and to also get a different litter box for her.

You didn't mention if she was spayed or not? It's possible that she could be marking the area to let males know, "here I am, I want you, come get me". Males are usually the ones who do this but I have seen females do it.

You might want to get a second tray. Make sure you leave enough space in the tray for her to dig. Also make sure you make your bed make things less "comfortable" for her to pee on. Also you may want to spray unwanted zones with a deturant like bitter apple spray that smells a little sour that she won't want to pee where it's sprayed.

scold her when she does it and put her in the litter box. also buy a spray that get rid of her scent on the areas that she is going on. maybe call a vet and just see what they say.
good luck

if you can catch the cat in the act..do the same as with dogs, get a spray bottle and spray her while showing her the mess she has made.. if you cant catch the act, put her on the bed with the mess and rub her face in it.. then give her a little spray and tell her no firmly.. cats don't look obediant but i trained mine that way and she listens now..
