Oh, man. Get used to it. It is the biggest religious holiday. You get paid for it. I am an Atheist, but any day away from work, I don't complain.

In cases like this you need to think of your work mates. I know your an atheist, but it's kind of a Christian duty (after all it is Christmas) I'm asking you to do, you could even say it was the one thing you admired Jesus for, after all, he stuck up for the people who were disadvantaged. While it is inconvenient (maybe even terribly inconvenient) for you to take the day off instead of enjoying your work, many of your workmates would be forced to work over Christmas by draconian bosses. Yeah, I know, I sound like one of those union guys, maybe cos I am. I've seen an employer actually force her horticultural employees back to work on Christmas day for no known justifiable reason. She got no financial gain from it, she had no customers to serve, got no competitive advantage, no tax advantage, no plants to water, the only thing she gained was getting her employees angry.
So even if you can only do it for your workmates, think of it as being the proverbial good neighbor and take the time off. One day the law will change and many people who earn a lot less than you do will be just that little bit worse off than they are now.

Well it is just customs that are adopted into a nations culture. Actually December 25 "Christmas" has nothing to do with being a Christan. In fact it is a pagan and Wicca customs. So really, if
true Christians do not celebrate with or a false religious custom.

If you can trade a day and or enjoy the overtime. For you as an atheist, Jesus said to celebrate only his death, nothing else. again birthdays are Babylon custom not christian.

Your boss may not be an atheist, he runs the company, so he decides what days are working days or not. Personally, it's an ineffcient structure to keep employees who want to work out of work (so long as there is productive work to be had). However, life isn't fair and people aren't rational. Also an argument can be made on it being a national holiday, such as martin luther king day, which is observed by all goverment employees.

There are far greater things that relegion has caused to be unfair. Such as my inability to purchase alcohol on a sunday morning. That and their domiance on the American political system that governs our life.

December 25th is more celebrated than not. In a situation like that, majority rules. I understand that you may be feeling like your rights are being violated but it could be alot worse. When you are a minority (which I consider myself to be), you just have to pick your battles. This is a battle that is not worth fighting. We live in a society full of consumers who want to spend their money and December 25th will always be the #1 spending holiday.
I hope it makes you feel better knowing that although you are in the minority, you are not alone. Enjoy your free day and celebrate having a day off.

Don't worry, December 25th is a pagan holiday anyway. Jesus was born at the end of Sept or the Beginning of Oct. Dec 25 is actually the date of the winter festival. Just enjoy it.

Go work for Raytheon. They're on a 24/7 shift. You have to work all holidays. Otherwise, quit complaining that you get a paid day off every year.

because mot of our modern societal customs, laws, and behaviours are based on Christian doctrine, we observe dec 25 as the saviour's birth day and even though that is not correct, it has become the marketer's holy grail period for filling our heads with dreams of plenty we don't need...you can till work if you want to...just treat it as a day or two off and be thankful for the break... after all. the love of money is the root of all evil...and we prove that over and over again every day...

Dec. 25 is a government holiday. Sadly, it no longer is an outrightly religious holiday. you are forced to take it for the same reason you take thanksgiving, new years, etc.
