i personally do not think it is ok, but it sounds like you have already started her. children need to learn how to entertain themselves, if they start tv that young they never have a chance to explore the world around them. i do think children started on tv very young are less active and primarily continue to watch tv. it is proven that tv produces very little brain stimulation and that is the last thing you want to do to 4 month old child. thier little brains need all the stimulation they can get, it is thier most developmental stage, age birth to 3.

The American Association of Pediatrics recommends NO television whatsoever for children under two years of age and only 2 hours a day for older children. I have a 5 month old and there is no way I am letting her watch TV so young. The only reason your baby is interested in the TV is because of the movement and the bright colors/light. I wouldn't recommend letting your child watch TV at all, focus on her development by reading to her, playing games with her and giving her toys that are age appropriate. I know it's more work than letting the TV entertain her but you are building a person, give her the best start you can.

I would suggest that there are better and more stimulating experiences that you could provide for your child. These should include touch, seeing your face, smiling, cuddling, loving and togetherness.
I often read a book to my daughter at 4 months of age and encouraged interaction. At 5 years of age she read "The Hobbit" to me. She is now a very bright, athetic 15 year old that watches very little TV, by her own choice.
Other TV Programs at a later age that promote coordination and interaction I would suggest would provide better value. You could maybe join in. Be fun for both of you.

Anything educational is good. My daughter watches Baby Einstein, Fimbles, Bear in the Big Blue House, and her favorite is Muppets (well, Muppets isn't that educational, but the music really gets her going). As long as your daughter is exposed to the outer world, you shouldn't have a problem...there is so much to explore!

she will only be a couch potatoe if you allow it
remember as she grows up you need to cut back on the TV.. since TV shows jump too much they actually contribute to Attention Deficite.. they know kids have short attention spans so play into that.. which ironically helps keep kids having short attention spans - thus creating Attention Deficite..

She'll only be a lazy couch potato if, when she's old enough to make choices, you let her be a lazy couch potato. She's only four months old. Relax.

I suggest to limiting her television time to no more than half hour a day. She needs to be more active at 4 months than plopped in front of a television.
