If you have an enamel coating on your crockpot (which could be of any colour), then it is poisonous, but in a kind of build-up of toxins in your body kind of way. You don't need to go to hospital or the doctor, if you've had a few meals with a few bits in your food; just buy a new one now. It's one of those things which is best to avoid, but won't kill you if you've only had a bit.

You are probably talking about lime or calcium buildup from your water supply. It won't hurt you. There are products which will remove it. Speak to someone at your local hardware store. They will know what you are talking about and be able to suggest a product. Often it is similar to what you can use to clean a coffee pot. You must make sure it is completely washed off before using the pot again.
