I am weaning my dog off of the Gentle Leader and feel that a martingale will be an acceptable alternative as a last step before going to just his regular collar. However, I prefer to use my own leash, so I do not want a collar/lead combo. And, if the collar is nylon, it MUST be rolled or thin nylon so as not to ruin my husky's coat like flat collars do. Any websites to recommend to find this type of collar?

My dog is NOT a show dog, I am only addressing show people as I think they may best know where to find this type of collar. I am only training my dog to pass his CGC test, where head collars and any kind of harness is NOT allowed. However, training collars are allowed. I will be taking my CGC through PetSmart, where a martingale or limited slip collar is allowed, but pinch and chokes are not.

If you can attend a dog show, you'll find anything you could possibly want for sale at the booths. They have a lot of great dog stuff that pet shops don't carry.

Martingales (and those weird headhalter things and pinch collars) are forbidden to even be used on the grounds of an AKC show.

You can't even walk a dog entered in a show around the grounds with them.

Do it and you are dismissed from the show.

In AKC obedience you have a choice of two collaars: flat buckle or a slip/choke chain (used by 95%+ of the trainers and competitors.) Anything else and you are elimiinated.

You need to go to Drs Foster & Smith website - a long time pet supplier. They may have something.

One of the big suppliers for show people, vets and groomer is Pet Edge - and they don't carry those things. They have pinch collars for training, harnesses to train the dog not to jump and as seat belts and a few head halters as they are popular with groomers.

A martingale has the lead attached, I have never seen one that is just a collar.

Is this for show? If it is just for everyday use as it sounds like, just get a nylon collar from this link. They will not hurt the coat, I have used them on Keeshonds for years and they were left on all the time.

I think they may also be carried by 3c's, I see someone posted a link.

Martingale show leads are used for many breeds, mine included. I have a whole slew of them. Almost all Sighthounds wear Hound style martingales as everday leads, including at dog shows.

I think you are going to be making your own. It's really not hard to do. Remember that with a Martingale size is of the up most importance if it is going to work as intended. I probably have 50 or so of them around here somewhere that I have made in the past for this dog or that dog. You will probably find that British slip lead will work just as well with only a fraction of the fussing around tho'.
The best place to buy a Martingale is from a vender at a show.

Hmmmm.....I don't think I've ever seen a rolled martingale collar on it's own. I've seen them as flat collars or as a lead/collar combo. Maybe you could get the combo and modify it?

NOPE...martingales COME /wthe lead! Thats*HOW* they work! LOL!!! and...NOT a good idea anyway.

If you can't find a BRAIDED nylon collar choke at your local pet supply ,tell them to ORDER you one! They have distributors that will bring along ANY size, shape, color you want.
