Hmmm...difficult to make good suggestions without a budget, but here are a few in a variety of price ranges:

* This is a really important time of life, so possibly a nice camera to record those moments to come.

* A vacation package for your son to explore the world, if he hasn't yet done many travels.

* Something nice for the home, since your son is reaching the age when he'll be beginning to get his own things together - a recliner, etc.

* A firesafe cabinet or other container with some of your son's important documents organized (birth certificate, transcripts and diplomas, etc.)(my husband's mother did this for his 18th birthday, and we still use the organizer to this day).

Hope the ideas help!

Well he is not a teenager anymore, scary isn't it? He's an adult now. He is probably into music and movies, I suggest a gift card
to Circuit City, Best Buys, Borders, Barnes & Nobles, Costco, Chilly's, Hollywood Video or gift certificates for the cinema. Holidays are just around the corner and he would probably want to hang up with his friends at the movies, there are tons of exciting movies coming to thearters and some of those tickets will come in handy!.
You could purchase these tickets at the booth, or buy them through AAA or through your bank if you want to save $$$
Good luck!

(1) money (2) make a large basket, filled to the top of things he likes. Do you bake? Fill a basket full of baked goodies AND a money card with money to "paint the town red" that evening. If baking isn't your thing, what job does he have or what is he studying to be? Make a basket centered around the things he uses---even if he has some things that the job furnishes, there will always be SOMETHING he has to buy. (3) What about a short trip with cash to spend? I've never heard of anyone that turned down Vegas. How about 21 days with room service (all three meals) and he can select 2 days of those 21.?

You could give him something that not only will he remember forever, but also be able to brag about (no, not a hooker!). I'd suggest like flying lessons. Or maybe you could set up his CBT - compulsary bike training - so that he can learn to ride a motorbike. He'll love you forever if you do this! Also, if you can get hold of them from Scotland, a sometimes tradition is to put 21 one pound notes into his birthday card -'ooh loadsa cash...oh, just £21...'

Hi there! A great gift would be to start him on a retirement plan (RRSP in Canada...not sure what it is elsewhere). The earlier he starts the better. This is what my husband's parents did. My husband has $25,000+ saved towards his retirement already and we had these RRSPs to borrow against to buy our first home. I feel that this was the best gift they could have given him. We will be doing the same for our children.
