I found this pretty little all black kitten in my yard on Friday 13th, (cool) I got a litterbox some sand and put him in it. Well he uses the box only once, doesnt cover it, then poops somewhere else in my house (arrrrrrrrh). I really want to keep this kitten but I am so tired of cleaning up poop! Please give me some suggestions.

Dont use sand, use litter. And you have to teach the cat to use it. Every once in a while throughout the day, pick the cat up and put him in the box. Take his paws and scratch at the litter like they do naturally so he will get the hint. When he poo's in other places in your house, pick it up and put it in the litter box and put him back in it. Do not hit or yell at him or rub his nose in it, this does not work. Eventually he will get the hint, You just have to keep helping him. As for him not covering his "business" afterwards, I adopted a cat that used to live in a barn outside with 16 other cats, and he hardly ever covered his poo either. I tried to teach him, and when I did he would track down clothes or paper towels or anything that was left on the floor and he would drag that to the litterbox and cover his business with that. I gave up and just said at least he is going in the box! Maybe that part has to do with the animal usually living outside.

dont use sand, try kitty litter, and a kennel. animals are less likely to poop in there own area. put kitten in the kennel, with kitty box just nearby. when you let the cat out, put him (or her) into the litter box

When I took my kitty home for the 1st time, I had my hubby hold him while I quick set up the liter box. Then we set him inside and left him alone to figure it out, while we went and waited for him to come out. He's never had an accident and we've had him for 3 mo. now! We use the kitty litter with clumping and baking soda. maybe you should switch brands.
