Its never specified... and theists don't like to think about it too much, ironically.
They just think of "God" as some vaguely anthropomorphised entity that intentionally and consciously created all of existence ex nihilo (from nothing). In the case of christians in particular, they tend to believe for some reason that this god loves them and is kind and generous and nice and that he has ulterior benevolant motives for all the absolutely horrific things he is ALSO responsible for (or of course they just blame those things on Satan... as if claiming without saying it that their god couldn't do such a thing... nor in fact do anything to stop it, ironically).
Despite all of this though... WHAT their god is seems to get skipped over. Its probably because in some form they feel unworthy or 'beneath' actually being able to know the truth... and they just accept this at face value because thats what they're programmed to do. Whether this is because they would consider it heretically rude to actually want to know what their god looked like.... or whether they believe its because looking at him to know him would make their eyes explode..... well.... we can't be sure. I'm inclined to believe even they don't know, because they've never given it a moment's thought.
So basically.... it hasn't been decided.
"God" does certain things and acts certain ways dependant on who you're talking to.... and there are things that might be attributed to him like "goodness" (what a laugh... ¬_¬) and "forgiveness" .... but nothing else has been determined, and is conveniently pushed under the rug by claiming that mere humans cannot fathom it.... or that its forbidden....
*Shrugs*
If there was a god, I personally know it would be ambivalent, have tentacles.... and crush people who invoked it too often.

"GOD is the name commonly given to the ultimate source and power of the universe and the subject of religious devotion," says The Encyclopedia Americana. A dictionary defines the term "God" as "the supreme or ultimate reality." What is the nature of such an awesome reality?
Is God an impersonal force or a real person? Does he have a name? Is he a triune entity, a Trinity, as many believe? How can we come to know God? The Bible provides truthful and satisfying answers to these questions. In fact, it encourages us to seek God, saying: "He is not far off from each one of us." —Acts 17:27.

God is the name used when humans talk about the unknown personality most believe is responsible for the creation of the universe.
I would also tell you that I am that personality and that I am currently living as a human on this planet. But, you wouldn't believe me if I did, so I won't share the details. I will however tell you this old thought. "If god wished to hide from himself, god would hide inside man. Why? Because, man would never think of looking inside himself for god." I looked, I found, I know, I AM.

The concept of God is an evolving concept, first created when primitive humans, with their active imagination, "explained" things they could not understand by creating fictitious super beings.
this concept evolved with the human species and the knowledge us humans acquired, until about 3400 years ago, in ancient Egypt, a king changed the religion and replaced all gods with a single god, the sun.
Later in Judea this concept reappeared with the appearance of the first monotheistic religion, that is the base for all present monotheistic religions, and the center piece of this religion was a single, nameless and faceless god, named Yahweh.

I know what God is to me. He is my Father, Savior, Lord, Master, Helper, Comforter, Redeemer, Shepherd, Love, Peace, Happiness, my Everything and so much, much more. I know God and He knows me - we have a great relationship through the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the bridge to God the Father - there is no other way. So when you ask me who God is - He is the Great I AM - my Creator and Friend.

Hi there, you ask a question that untill we come face to face with God we really cannot fully answer.
what we can say about God is what Jesus told us, He said many things about the Father, He is a loving father to all who call on Him, He is love and mercy itself, meaning of course that we can be loving and have mercy, but God dosen`t just possess these attributes, He actually is these in His being, and therefore the author of all good.
however, even though Jesus revealed His Father`s love, God is pure spirit, and as such we cannot know Him as He knows Himself.
this is the mystery of God, our limited finite human minds can not possibly know God as He really is, even the Angels although constantly in His prescence, cannot fully know Him, although they percieve God much clearer than we do.
its hard for us to get our heads around something so far above our intellect, even the church speaks at times of the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
if you consider it this way it may help,an amoeba does not have the mental capacity to even begin to know what you are in yourself, it would need to have great intelligence just to see and hear you, and to understand what you are saying.
God has given us the intelligence to be able to do what the Amoeba cannot, but in order for us to know God fully we would have to be as God.
Phew! see how tough it is to answer this question, eventually we all must settle for for what Jesus has revealed and be content wiht this, great scholars of the church in the last 2,000 yrs have tried to give answer to your question and have had to accept that which has been revealed and to be content with it.
good luck.

Whom ever you belief it or what you want to believe in......Belief or faith is not tangible. It can only be felt in your mind and soul. If you research "Alternative Religions" you will find that Devotees will believe and worship many different things....Snakes, Idols, Animals...etc. During the 60's I reseached a group that worshipped the "Holy Guitar".....What ever gets you there......
