I don't know if this helps but there is a local school which is run by the council but paid for and maintained by a private company. It is called the Wooldale Centre for Learning in Northampton.
Also in Surrey, there is a hospital called St Peter's in Chertsey where there is a private wing which treats NHS patients then re-charges the NHS but it is still a lot cheaper than the NHS doing it themselves.

Science parks on university sites are a good example. the companies on the site get help from the university - the university has specialist companies virtually on site. The NHS has mobile MRI scanners run by private companies visit NHS hospitals and do MRI scans - and they pay for the scans rather than buying an expensive scanner. Bad examples are where a private company owns and runs a NHS hospital - they generally rip the tax payer off. Or they complain they are running at a loss - because they pay their CEO too much and then ask for more money.

The NHS. Certain car factories are here because the government subsidises them. The railways. Tracks owned publicly now. Trains and services run privately.
The 2012 Olympics will be too. Being paid for with lottery money, government grants and private sponsorship.
