You say neither excaped death. You are right but Jesus died to give us all life including you if you will only accept it.
Houdini died doing a trick.
Jesus gave His life for us when in humbleness, He chose to become sin for us so we can be made the righteousness of GOD through Him. He humbled Himself
Houdini died because his pride would not allow him to listen to many who said he could not do th trick he was planing.

Jesus remains with us because even the grave could not hold Him. He talks to HIS people every day
