I am off at the minute having injured my knee. I have been signed off for at least 3 weeks. Trouble is other than my good buddies at YA, I feel quite isolated. I can't drive at the mo and live in a very rural area. I am also at Uni part time and whilst the lecture notes and that are online, I am missing so much by not actually being there. I have emailed the lecturers who are being as helpful as they can but I am in my fifth year of six year degree and cannot defer a year as Law Society will only accept degrees done in 6 years max. How can I stop feeling out of control about this? I am trying to study on line and from books but it really is not the same. I don't want my overall mark to suffer.

I do sympathise. You must be feeling very frustrated at the moment.

As the other respondents have suggested, try getting some friends to come around and chat about law with you.

Also, use this time to get completely up to date with assignments and really read around the subjects you're studying. If you can, read cases (I'm sure you know about http://www.bailii.org/ ) and get ahead.

I always found it easier to remember cases if I'd read the whole decision and got all the juicy background!

If you've had to teach yourself you'll remember the information better than if it's been spoon-fed to you by lecturers.

Three weeks will go past in no time at all - imagine how good you'd feel if all your studies were completely up-to-date and you go back to university knowing more than your friends.

I sounds like you HAVE taken control of your bad situation. You are doing what you can. Some would just slough it off.

Everything that happens, happens for a reason. This is teaching you a lesson of sorts, you have to figure out what it might be. 3 weeks is not a long time, you'll be off and running very soon.

Don't go back before you're healed or you will have a lifetime of hurt with that knee. You're fine.

This could be your chance to face the fact you are never totally in control. It is a forceful way for you to face this fact: your feelings are more in control that you wish them to be. The time period will also force you to face what is most important in your life, who your real friends are, why you do what you do, what even the negatives 'give you' so that you refuse to give them up. Keeping your grades up while not it class, will teach you that the location is not as important as we think it is, force you to depend on yourself, rather than on the system at school. And while you are not there, there may be something happening that would cause you to miss your goal altogether. (Ex: a flat tire keeps you off the road at the time of a giant crash that could have killed you.

Invite some friends over and ask one of them to pick up some takeout.

Another idea would be to get some friends from Uni to come over and study with you for a couple of hours.

Ask some of your friends at Uni to come over and see you and discuss what they have been doing.
