Yep! It's the mineral content alright.
In addition. Most people prefer drinking the hard stuff, (like water from wells) and washing with the soft stuff ( like distilled water). There are definite differences in the taste and feel between the two.

Hard water has a lot of dissolved minerals, mostly calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. Extremely hard water can make it difficult to use soap for its intended purpose, but people who live in places with hard water have a longer life expectancy than people who live in places with soft water.

Hard water contains metalsalts like the salts of magnetium and the like, which are not good for digestion, or for cooking or for washing cloths, the reason,is these salts which are diffult to dissolve in water get dissolved over a period of time, so the solubility, i.e. capasity of such water to dissolve,simple salts and soaps (non-etergents) weakens, therefore it hinders the action of digesting the food in stomach, and cooking process specially daal like to we Indians, and also washing of cloths becomes difficult.
