Glandular fever can affect anyone, but is most common in young people and teenagers. It's sometimes called the 'kissing disease' as it's spread by saliva, but of course can also be passed through sneezes and coughs. The incubation period is from 4 to 6 weeks. It's a viral infection caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Symptoms are: sore throat, swollen tonsils, enlarged and painful lymph glands (usually in the neck), flu-like symptoms and intense fatigue. A blood test is needed for confirmed diagnosis and complete rest is required for recovery, which should take from 4-6 weeks. Because of the extreme tiredness, however, it can be several months before the patient feels completely fit and even then, periods of stress or lack of sleep can resurrect the symptoms over a period of a year of more.

It's a bacteria that you ingest from unclean crockery or drinking water. Some people used to call it the kissing disease but in order to get it that way your partner would have to spit in your mouth all day long and then there would be no garantees you'd get it. It's known as Mono too.
It infects the tonsils and you get the worst sore throat of your life. Some cases are far worse than others. I had hepititis with it and was alseep 23 out of 24 hours a day so I was on IV dirps. You run a very high fever with it also and it is something that will stay in your body dormat for life. Dormat until you are run down and get sick again. I've had three rebouts of it though not as bad as the original one.
PS the closet we could figure was I got it from a plate that was not cleaned properly at a friends house. It can happen anywhere and it doesn't mean that the people are piggies.

I had glandular fever when I was 21. It is quite common among people of this age. I had all the classic symptoms like a rash all over, very low energy-I had to leave college as it took 6 months to ease up. Also no alcohol is advised for six months because your kidneys are weakened and can be damaged with any intake of alcohol. I lost weight too and became depressed. I was living at home with my parents so I was fortunate that I was well looked after. Eating a good diet and keeping in contact with friends and family is very important towards your recovery-gentle exercise too. My doctor knew I had the disease just by examining me but he also sent off a blood sample to be sure.

All of the above answers seem to describe the symptoms. Glaundular Fever can only be diagnosed by having a blood test done and to start off with can seem like Tonsilitis. My best friend had it throughout her teenage years and it used to flare up when she was run down. I think that it lies dormant and you are prone to flare ups after that. If you think you have it you must see a doctor to get it properly diagnosed and treated.

it is an autoimmune disorder. symptoms are generally prolonged sore throat, swollen glands including theaxillary glands, swollen spleen as well. One feels really lethargic or depressed with it. very hard to get on with things as there is a huge lack of energy. it is diagnosed by clinical examination and by blood test.
