As mentioned above you drop the first 0 and add 44 which is the country code for the UK. In front of the 44 you will need to put the code that the country you are in uses to dial overseas.
eg from most EU countries, dial 00 44 870.....
but from United States dial 011 44 870
The previous respondent said it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't and this is correct. I'm not sure if it is dependent on the provider or if it is down to the country you are calling from. I lived in France for a while and calling 0870 from there was never a problem (just expensive!).
Ultimately you will have to give it a try and see if it works! If it is a major company - and I would assume it is since it is usually the big ones who have 0870 numbers - then check their website as they usually have an alternative number listed which can be dialled from overseas which would have a normal national dialling code rather than a non-geographic (eg 0800, 0870) one.

Ue the prefix +44 or 0044 then leave out the first zero of the number and dial. Example 0870 100 100 would become
+44 870 100 100 or
0044 870 100 100
Dont know what that number is but try it and see

Don't know the number M but I do know there is a scam going on whereby you get a phone call which goes on an on and then you find YOU have to pay the bill. I am sorry if I am scaring you but just thought you should be aware. It hasn't happened to me thank goodness. As someone else said try making a high pitch noise down the phone that will get rid of them!

just because its a 0870 number does not mean that the company will accept calls from abroad , just like in the UK if we try to dial the USA toll free`s . some times it will connect and some times it wont connect , depends on the company arrangement with their suppliers ie BT , C&W etc not all company`s wish to have calls from abroad

Despite all of these 'helpful' answers, I don't think you CAN call an 0870 number from abroad because then the owner of that number wouldn't get paid for you ringing them (OH YES THEY DO!!!) and they usually provide a special number to call them from abroad instead.

Go to www. saynoto0870.co.uk or it might be .com or .org,
there you will find a whole list of banks and other businesses that use non regional prefixes and they give you the landline number, just add the country code (+44)
