It was about 10pm one night and a storm was coming.... freezing ,stormy, hard raining, lighting, thunderous night and my Shih Tzu "Mayla" had been in labor seems like all day long. Once the storms arrived it just seemed like everything started. It took hours waiting, watching, helping Mayla not to mention praying ...that all the pups would be fine. I had lots of coffee and hot cocoa that night, it was sooo cold. I wished everything went great and that there would be no late night jump in the car to the vets. But all went well we had three pups ....2 boys, 1 girl.... I spent all night just looking at them in their bed by the fire place ( Where Mayla loved to be) ....and watching over her. She was soo tired....but took care of her babies. I will never forget that experience. I really enjoy how it all played out, I have it on video so I can watch it when every I wanna see it. We were already video taping because of the strong storms coming, it was kinda scary. But we all got through it !

OMG, that poor airedale.

This didn't happen to me, but I got a pup from the litter in question.

Lisa was a healthy, two year old female basset hound having her first litter. Her owners were experienced, long-time breeders. Lisa went into labor and suddenly dropped dead. Her owner ran to the kitchen, got a knife and cut her open right there so he could save the puppies. Amazingly, all 8 puppies survived.

This doesn't have anything to do with puppies, but I have a half German Shepherd half Chow and a few years ago my sister got a cat. One night it was pouring out and the cat escaped out the front door when I came home. We looked all over for him but we came home empty-handed. When we opened the door to call it a night, the dog ran away! She had never done anything like that before so I was surprised. It was late though and I figured she'd be okay and end up coming back in an hour or two. About twenty minutes later I hear some scratching on the front door and I open it up to find the dog holding the cat in her mouth. It was pretty amazing.

My sister's dog, a beautiful golden retriever called Holly, was pregnant. We wanted her to have puppies inside, but we couldn't find her one night. She had dug herself a hole in the ditch and was going to have her puppies there, but she was too scared so she ran to the door and we let her in. She had 7 beautiful retriever x sheepdog puppies. The next day, my sister and I went to her little hole in the ditch and we heard crying, and there was a tiny puppy in there! We brought it inside and put it with Holly and the puppies, and let it nurse. Now this was winter in Ireland, and the puppy was extremely cold. We were very doubtful, but the afterbirth that covered the puppy saved her life. So the puppy survived, and then a few weeks later, she went missing. Gypsy, as we had named her, was gone! We looked everywhere, and eventually found her in our neighbour's old bathtub. Then, a few months later, my mom was driving her car and accidentally ran over her! She broke her pelvis, and the vet said she might not walk again. So, after she recovered, the only thing wrong with her was she could never wag her tail anymore! She's a real miracle dog!
